A nice, easy, short 2-mile walk will take you up Little Mell Fell, 505m high. It is one of the Wainwright walks. Perfect if you’re ticking them off on your list like I am.
The walk starts from The Quiet Site, just below 300m above sea level. The climb to the summit of Little Mell Fell at 505m is only short, making it a great morning or afternoon walk if you are short of time. We did this walk in the afternoon when we arrived in the Lakes. The walk should take you round an hour to do.
Here is the route we took:

Walkthrough ‘The Quiet Site’ passing through the static caravans to you reach a little gate. Pass through the gate and turn left. Walk down the quiet country road.

When you reach the junction at the bottom of the road, turn right, and follow the road. There should be a static caravan park on your left-hand side.

At the end of the road, turn right. Follow the road up the hill until you reach a stile on your right-hand side, just passed a wooded area. On your way up the road, stop for a second, and look behind. On the left-hand side of the road, looking over the fields, you should be able to see Ullswater in the distance.

Climb over the stile and head up the hill to another stile. In May when we walked this route, we saw lots of lambs running and playing around in the field.

Climb over the stile or walk through the missing gate as I did, and follow the steep path up the mountainside until you reach the summit. The climb is only a short climb, and worth every moment. At the summit, you will be able to see views all the way around you as longs as it’s not a cloudy day. You should be able to see Blencathra, Ullswater, High Street, Helvellyn, and many more. We could see for miles and miles.

The route down is very straight forward. It is the same as it was the way up but in reverse. Just hope you remembered which path you came upon. To help to check you have the right path on a clear day, facing the way you are traveling down, Ullswater should be on your left-hand side. Once you’re confident it is, head down the steep path to the stile. The views going down are very different from going up. Unless you kept stopping to look behind like we did take pictures!

Climb over the stile or go through the missing gate and walk along the short path to the next stile. Climb over the stile onto the quiet, country road.

Turn left and walk down the road, passing by the woods on your left-hand side and a farmhouse, until you reach the junction.

Turn left and follow the road until you reach the next junction. The static caravan park should be on your right-hand side.

Turn left at the junction and follow the road round until you reach the gate on your right-hand side which will lead you back through ‘The Quiet Site’. Go through the gate and follow the road through the static caravans. You should have arrived back where you started.
