My Lung Function Test

This week has been so much better! I finally feel I have the wolf back under control again. I’m so happy!

For anyone who’s new on here, I’ve had a bad few weeks. It all started when I stopped my Methotrexate for two weeks to give my body the best chance possible to create antibodies from the COVID vaccine. After two passed, I restarted my Methotrexate injections again, but by this point, the wolf wasn’t happy. He wasn’t happy I had stopped them. I then carried on with life, pushing my body, but never fully felt right. In the end, the wolf said enough is enough and left me in bed with a nasty flare. After a steroid dose increase, I began to feel better. I still didn’t feel completely right, but I decided to return to normal life again. I found it hard! In hindsight, I should have given my body an extra day or two to recover, instead of jumping back to normal life as quickly as I did. It’s hard sometimes to gauge it. You feel like your ok when you’re just sitting there doing nothing. But when you start living your normal life, you realise actually, you’re not quite well yet. You live and learn! The main thing is, this week I feel well again. I can happily say, I’m back in control with the wolf.

Lung Function Test

This week I had my lung function test. I’ve been waiting for this test since the summer of 2020. But because of the pandemic, it had been delayed.

Back in the summer of 2020, I was rediagnosed with asthma. I had quite bad asthma as a young kid. My mom would say how could constantly hear my chest wheezing. As a got older, my asthma went away. It was like I grew out of it! But it’s back, but thankfully only mildly, and controlled well with my Beclometasone steroid inhaler.

Last summer, when we realised my asthma had returned, the doctor requested a lung function test. She wanted to check it was just asthma and nothing more serious on my lungs, especially since I have Lupus. For anyone who doesn’t know, Lupus can affect your lungs, and cause lots of different lung conditions. With my inhalers working, I knew it was just asthma. Even my asthma nurse said to me, you will know if it’s asthma or not by if your inhales work or not.

My lung function test went well. My results were below the predicted peak flow readings for my age, height, etc, but they were fine. They did two different tests on me. The first one where I had to do one long breath out, they predicted 102%, my reading was 96%. The second one I had to do one big blowout, they predicted 98% and my reading was 92%. So I’m really happy with the results. Means I do have Asthma and nothing else more serious going on and shows my inhalers are working well to control it, which I kind of knew that anyway.

The Air Purifier

I don’t know if you remember, but a few weeks ago I talked about how I decided to purchase an air purifier to help with my sinuses and how I said I would let you know how I get on with it. My verdict is inconclusive! I really can’t tell if it’s making a difference or not. I think half the problem is, I don’t have it turned on all the time. Also, I’m allergic to mould spores, which are everywhere. So unless I sit in my living room where the air purifier is currently located and do not leave that room at all, I’m not going to be able to avoid them. However, one thing I have noticed, it sends me to sleep. It has a humming noise, which is white noise, so it makes me feel quite tired and drowsy when it’s on. So if you are someone who struggles to sleep, it may be good for that. Apparently, they’re also good at filtering viruses out of the air. So you have people coming round, I guess it could be good for that? Maybe it will help to prevent you from picking up colds or even COVID from people so easily? I can’t say for certain it will protect you, but it does say it filters viruses and bacteria out of the air, so maybe it might help?

Basically, I don’t know if they are worth it or not. Some people have said they really have worked for them. My sister who has one is allergic to dust pollen. She slept with it in her bedroom and it did stop her sneezing so much on a night. So I guess it did help her to an extent. They do collect a lot of dust from the air, as you can see on the Hepa filter from other people’s when they come to change their filter. So they do clean the air. But when it comes to me and my allergy to mould spores, I don’t think this is the answer. The minute you walk outside, you are surrounded by lots of mould spores this time of year. I’m somebody who loves to spend time outdoors, so there’s certainly no escaping for me! However, one thing it will be good for is when I have people round to my house. I will always be putting it on. Anything to give me extra protection from catching any nasty viruses, not just COVID.

That’s it from me this week. I sent my book off to be printed this week. I should be receiving my first draft copy tomorrow. I cannot wait! This afternoon, going to get a few more stuff boxed up, ready for the house move. Still got no date. It’s now starting to really drag! Where just waiting on the seller’s solicitors to do their bits. Everything else is all done and signed for.

Until next week,

Goodbye for now

Emma
