Who’s seen the famous TV series, Game of Thrones (GOT)? If you are a big fan, like me, Northern Ireland is the place to be. There are filming locations all over Northern Ireland. They do day tours from Belfast. We had a hired car, so we decided to visit a couple on our own.

Here are the two filming locations my partner and I visited in September:

The Dark Hedges

You may have seen photos of The Dark Hedges all over Instagram and other social media websites. The Dark Hedges is the most photographed GOT filming location in Northern Ireland. After visiting it myself, I can understand why.

The Dark Hedges was used as Kings Road in season 2. It was used on the scene where Arya Start was put on a wagon and sent away to make her escape from Kings Landing.

This filming location is about an hour’s drive from the centre of Belfast.

Ballintoy Harbour

Ballintoy Harbour is another famous GOT filming location, in Northern Ireland. The harbour was used as the docks of the Greyjoy Kingdom of Pyke. Even if you are not so interested in seeing the GOT filming locations, Ballintoy Harbour is a lovely little harbour to visit, on the north coast of Northern Ireland.

While you are visiting Ballintoy Harbour, I recommend stopping for some food in The Fullerton Arms. My partner and I enjoyed a delicious steak, while been served by friendly, warm welcoming staff. We were even lucky enough to sit in the Iron Throne, on entering the pub.
