The title says it all! FINALLY, waving goodbye to Covid! And just in case you’re in any doubt, I never want it ever again!
It’s been a long few weeks, mentally and physically. There were so many days I felt as though I was never going to recover! For days on end, I couldn’t walk more than a few metres without being in a lot of discomfort with my chest. It was awful! However, after a lot rest and time, I finally can say I’ve recovered and have my life back! I couldn’t be happier!
Chest Infection
On my last blog, I was suffering with a chest infection caused by Covid. It was one horrible chest infection!
After I had finished the antibiotics, I went back to doctors to get my chest listened to. After she listened to my chest, she confirmed my chest infection had cleared, thankfully! However, Covid and the infection had left my chest sore and inflammed. She signed me off for two weeks. She said I need to go home, rest and give my body time to heal. I was like surely it’s not going to take that long? Surely, I will be ok after a few days? A week at most? She kept saying to me, my body will take longer to heal then a healthy person. I have to accept that! For somebody who loves living life to the full, it’s not the news you want to hear!
We did discuss the fact if I got the anti-viral medication when I should have done, maybe I wouldn’t have been as bad as I was? Maybe, I would have avoided that nasty chest infection I had? That chest infection left me feeling so sofficated, it was horrible! Never again do I want such a horrrible infection! It took almost the whole of my 7-day course of antibiotics to clear it! Normally, by day 4 I see progress. This time it was day 6! I was starting to think they weren’t going to clear it! Thankfully, they did!
Doctors Was Right!
On my strict two weeks of rest, day by day I made progress. But it was slow! My breathing slowly became easier and the pain slowly started to decrease. It was that slow, it took the full two weeks to recover! Recover to a point were I can actually walk without being in discomfort with my chest. Being able to breathe without needing my blue inhaler every 5 minutes!
She was right! I needed two weeks to rest and allow my chest to heal, not just the few days I thought I needed!
After doing as my told for once, this weekend I have felt so much better! In fact, this weekend I have felt the best I have in such a long time!
One Thing I Have Learnt
One thing I have learnt from having Covid, I never give myself enough time to recover! Instead, I rush back to normality far too quickly, and spend weeks and weeks after, struggling. Whereas, if I just give myself a few extra days to recover, I would feel more like I do today!
Hopefully, now I’ve allowed my body to heal probably, I’m going to have a good, long spell of good health. I just need to avoid any nasty viruses out there!
My Methotrexate
Finally back on my Methotrexate and back down to my normal dose of steroids! It had been a long few weeks off my Methotrexate and my body was really feeling it! I’ve completely lost count how many doses I had missed, but what I do know is that it was the longest I’ve ever been off it since starting it! It got to the point were I was wanting to sleep all day, my joints hurt, I had bad headaches. Basically, my lupus was flaring! Once I got back on my Methotrexate, my symptoms soon eased, reminding me what a great drug it is!
My Summary of Covid
Six vaccines and a mild dose of Covid is still not good news for me, despite me thinking I would be ok! It caused a chest infection, which lead me going onto antibiotics and a high dose of steroids. It left my chest inflammed, sore, and breathesss, which left me having to use my blue inhaler multiple times throughout the day. It destroyed almost all my white bloods counts, with my neutrophil count dispearing down to 0.5, putting me a great infection risk! And then to top it off, it left me for weeks without one of my most important medications for my Lupus, my Methotrexate! Oh, and it ruined my start to 2023!
So this weekend, I’m restarting this year! Happy New Year everyone!
That’s it from me this week!
Looking forward to getting back to normality next week and actually being able to live 2023 as it should be!
Goodbye for now,
Emma
