The Weather That’s Best For My Lupus

What a wild week it has been a long the NC 500! We’ve had wind speeds up to 60 mph, and it was scary! Casper rocked and the wind howled. At one point I thought we were going to end up in the loch next to us!

The northwest of Scotland has had severe gales for most of the week. It is often windy up there, but not to the extreme it has been for us. We nearly aborted the route, but so glad we didn’t! No matter how scary it got at times, how many sleepless nights we had, it was still one epic road trip!

It’s Been A Good Week

It’s been a good week with the wolf. I finished my course of antibiotics, which completely cleared up my sinuses. In fact, my sinuses this week have been the best they have been in a long while! On top of that, my stomach has been doing a lot better too. I haven’t been going to bed each night in pain, feeling sick with my stomach. Still having to sleep with my daft cheese wedge of a pillow. That will never change!

The Best Weather

A lot of people would complain about the weather we’ve had in Scotland. To me, it’s my favourite type of weather. Very little sun, and very overcast days. Yup, that’s just how I like it! Or should I say that’s just how the wolf likes it!

I notice I feel a lot better with my illness when the sun doesn’t shine. This holiday has completely proved that! The sun flares up my Lupus, makes me feel fatigued, causes my joints to hurt, and makes me feel generally unwell within myself. Because of the lack of sun this holiday, on a whole I have felt well. In fact, my joints have been that good, I’ve not needed my walking poles when out walking. But we’ve also not been climbing any mountains due to the mental wind speeds, where I normally need my poles more.

I had planned to climb Ben Hope, the most northern Munro in Scotland. But the day we planned to climb it, the wind speeds at the summit were forecasted up to 75 mph. Just crazy speeds! I’m a bit gutted coming home from Scotland today without climbing a single mountain. Part of the reason I went to Scotland in the first place! Especially while I am currently well enough to climb mountains. Next year, I might be too poorly to climb them, who knows. I’ve learned with my chronic illnesses, it’s so important to live in the moment. 2 years ago I struggled to walk around a supermarket, today I can climb mountains, in 2 years’ time, I could be in a wheelchair. I mean hopefully not, but you just don’t know so you can’t take anything for granted.

Anyways, that’s it from me today. I’m not looking forward to next week. I’ve got my flu jab and booster. I’m pretty anxious about getting my booster. I’m hoping it doesn’t make me really poorly like my 2nd dose of the vaccine did last year. I’m also going to stop my Methotrexate for 2 weeks, to give me the best chance possible to create some antibodies to the vaccine. I’m just hoping this doesn’t make my illness flare up.

Until next week,

Goodbye for now

Emma
