Obidos is a medieval, walled town, located in the Oeste region. It is known to be one of the most picturesque and well-preserved towns, in Portugal. After my visit, I can understand why. It is a beautiful town to wander around, get lost in and enjoy local Portuguese souvenirs, hand-crafts and of the cause the local food. You can also take a walk along the castle walls and pay a trip into the castle grounds itself. Unfortunately, this was all closed off on our visit, due to some work going on.
The best way to visit Obidos is by car. There are plenty of car parks to choose from. We parked at a car park, located next to the viaduct. I can’t remember how much we paid, but I do know, it was not a lot. If driving is not an option, there is an express bus, which you can catch from Lisbon to Obidos.
When you visit Obidos, I highly recommend you stop at Taberna Pasto da Vila for a bite to eat. It is a traditional Portuguese restaurant, with its traditional food on the menu. The meats and fish are cooked freshly on the BBQ. The whole atmosphere is fantastic and the food is delicious. My partner and I, enjoyed some Portuguese sausages, homemade bread, and local cheese.
