My Weekly Lupus Diary

Sjogren’s Causing Yet Another Sinus Infection

Ok, not the week I quite expected to have! But I guess that’s just life living with the wolf right? All full of surprises. Some welcomed, and some not so much!

The week started strong after recovering from the nasty flare-up. But as always, the first few days after a flare-up, my body is always fragile. It doesn’t take much to push it back over the edge again. On Wednesday, I did exactly that, pushed the wolf over the edge again! I’m not 100% sure of the exact cause. It could be the heat? It could be the fact I decided to shampoo all my carpets? Or could be just the combination of them both. Probably the latter one! Too much stress for my body, too soon after recovering from my flare.

I’m My Own Worst Enemy!

Sometimes, I’m my own worse enemy! I knew the heat would challenge my body. When it’s hot, my body is working twice as hard to keep it cool. I shouldn’t then go and do anything else that I know will extra stress my body out even further. I will learn one day! It’s hard though! It’s easier said than done and I am annoyed at myself. I hate being poorly, in pain, and not being able to get on with my normal life. Then when I’m well, I just want to be able to get on with my life. I don’t want to have to tiptoe around the wolf. But it’s about finding the right balance and listening to my body, which I failed to do this week.

So because of my bad choices on Wednesday, I made the wolf angry. I spent Thursday and Friday fighting a nasty, painful flare. The flare then caused my sinuses to get infected, thanks to my Sjogren’s. So now back on antibiotics, for my 2nd time within a space of a few weeks. Saturday I felt a lot better from my flare but had my painful sinuses to deal with. Today, my sinuses starting to become less painful, but still have a lot of unwanted pressure above my cheekbones. I keep getting spells of going really dizzy too, which is not fun! But the main thing is, I am doing so much better now! Flare-up has seemed to heal, a sinus infection slowly starting to clear. Now, I just need to take it easy until my body regains full strength again.

Interesting Blood Results

From my white blood count and neutrophil count being too low, there now at the opposite end of the spectrum, and are too high. I don’t think I’ve seen such a high neutrophil count on my bloods before! I’m guessing it’s because of the steroid injection? I know whenever I’ve had low white blood counts in the past and gone onto an increased dose of steroids, my counts have increased. I guess having a high white blood count/neutrophil count is good for fighting off my sinus infection. I just wish my lymphocyte count would increase too, as that is still too low.

Sending Big Hugs

I’m sending lots of love and big hugs to everyone who is suffering in the heat at the minute. I know a few of you have been messaging me, about how the heat has been making you feel unwell too. Also a big thank you to each and everyone of you who has been sharing my blogs to help to educate people about our condition. One person commented how she shared my blog to her partner on how the heat can affect lupus as he didn’t want to believe her. I think it’s just sometimes not a matter of believing, but the knowledge they have about our condition. This is why I advocate so much! Even I, who’s lived with lupus for 11 years am still learning about it.

That’s it for this week. Hopefully, next Sunday I will be out venturing in Casper. It’s been a while! Far too long! So if things go to plan, I will be taking next Sunday off my blog. When I return on the bank holiday weekend, I will be a year older! 🙂

Until next time,

Goodbye for now

Emma
