Suffering From Metatarsalgia

Happy Sunday! I honestly cannot believe another week has gone by! Where do the days go? I’m currently sitting in Casper, in the middle of Norfolk, writing this blog. This is our first time in Norfolk, and what a beautiful area of the country it is. We visited the Norfolk coast, and we’ve had a potter around a very small section of the Norfolk Broads, catching a glimpse of the old water pumping windmills. The Norfolk Broads reminds me of the Netherlands: canals, windmills, and beautiful flat countryside.

Here are some photos of our trip down to Norfolk:

Gas Shortage

This actually might be our last trip away in Casper for some time, unless we can get hold of any more gas. It breaks my heart saying this, especially when we are supposed to be going away for our mini honeymoon in it.

As you know there is a national gas shortage. This has caused supply issues with our Calor Gas bottles, which we use for our van. Apparently, we’ve been told the earliest they will be getting any, will be the summer. Not sure what we are going to do, as our van uses gas for heating, hot water, fridge, and cooking. There’s one option about getting a diesel heater, but that’s only the heating sorted. To be fair that’s my biggest priority. I do hate being cold!

The Wolf

It’s been a good week overall with the wolf. I’ve been ok, apart from a few sore joints, and tiredness. I’m guessing the tiredness is nothing to do with my illness, and just from the whole house move and everything. As it has been an incredibly busy two weeks! This weekend away in Casper has been everything we’ve both needed. It’s our perfect way to relax and destress from everything.

However, I have suffered from Metatarsalgia this week in my left foot. Not sure if it’s related to my illness or not. I don’t get it very often, thankfully. In fact, I haven’t had it in years! But when I do, it’s very painful.

For anyone who doesn’t know what Metatarsalgia is, it’s inflammation in your ball of the foot. I was worried this weekend I wouldn’t be able to walk on it. Luckily, as the week went on, with rest, pain relief, and ice, the inflammation and pain slowly decreased day by day. Today is the first morning I’ve woken up this week and been able to put weight on my left foot without any pain at all. I’m so happy, nothing is worse than walking on your foot in pain all day long. Just makes the simplest of jobs twice as hard.

First Meal Out

This weekend in Norwich, Alex and I had our first meal out together since the start of the pandemic. It felt so good! For anyone who is new on here, I’ve spent a good part of the pandemic shielding due to being severely immunocompromised. Which meant a good part of the last couple of years, doing very little in public places. But now fully vaccinated with 4 vaccines, treatment available, and a weaker variant around, I feel more comfortable doing more things again. I know there’s still a risk for me. But I know there is a risk for me with every common cold that goes around, or with the seasonal flu. I do still take precautions when I go out, like mask-wearing, but it’s also nice to be able to do more again. It’s the little things I’ve really missed. Like going into a city and going out for a nice meal.

You have to do what makes you happy, and what you feel comfortable about doing. And I know it’s hard, especially after shielding for so long and being told it could kill us. But we also need to remember we are in a better place with it now than we were a year ago.

Anyways, that’s it from me this week. I know it’s only a short blog. Going to get ourselves out for a walk in the Norfolk countryside, before we head home today and before the rain arrives.

Before I go, here’s a little reminder about my book. I’ve extended the reduced price until the end of this month, as many of you were wanted to buy it, but were gutted, as you were too skint to purchase it in January after Christmas. So make sure you don’t miss out on a great saving as it will be ending on the 28th of February!

How I tamed the Wolf: Living with Lupus is available to buy on Amazon on the Kindle or as a paperback.

Until next week,

Goodbye for now
