Humbleton Hill, 298 metres (977 feet) is a small but beautiful hill in The Cheviot Hills, Northumberland National Park. The Cheviot Hills run between Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. The highest of the Cheviot Hills is The Cheviot, sitting at 815 metres (2,674 feet) above sea level.
This walk is a lovely, easy walk, on well-marked paths. The route is just over 4 miles long, making it perfect for the whole family! You can climb Humbleton Hill on its own, or you can add Gains Law to your route as we did. To reach the summit of Gains Law, you only have to take a tiny detour off the route to the trig.
Location
Humbleton Hill is located near the town of Wooller, on the east side of Northumberland National Park. Just half an hour’s drive, southwest of Berwick-upon-Tweed.
Parking
There is a small car park located at the trailhead. The car park is called Common Road Parking at Wooller Common.

The Route
Follow this map, as you walk the route, you shouldnât get lost! The route is written, travelling anti-clockwise.
Make sure your location is turned on and you should be able to see exactly where you are, on this map. Or if you prefer, download the GPX file and use it on your choice of route tracker.
1.
Starting from the car park, take the path heading north out of the car park, through Woller Common. Very shortly, you should see a path going off your left-hand side.
2.
Take the path and follow it up the hillside, through the trees. Shortly, you should reach a gate. Head through the gate and continue to follow the path, traveling forward, across the path junction.

Continue to follow the path as it bends round towards your left-hand side to another gate. Head through the gate and take the path going off to your right-hand side.

Follow the path as it heads down the valley, keeping an eye out for a footpath going off to your left-hand side, leading you up to Humbleton Hill.

Head through the gate, and follow the footpath as it leads you steeply up the grassy hill edge of Humbleton Hill. At the summit, you will be greeted with views for miles and miles on a clear day!

From the summit of Humbleton Hill, follow the path southwest of the summit, until you see a path going off to your left-hand side. Take the path and follow it up, until you reach another path function.

This path junction is where you make a detour off to Gains Law! Turn to your right-hand side, and follow the path that narrowly detours off to the summit of Gains Law, marked with a trig.

From the summit of Gains Law, retrace your steps back to the path junction where you made the detour. From this path junction, continue walking forward in the same direction, following the path along the top and down to meet the route from where you were earlier on the walk.
9.
Head through the gate on your right-hand side and follow the path. Follow it down and around, until you reach a second gate. Head through the gate, and follow the path down through the woods to a path junction.
10.
Turn towards your right-hand side and follow the path back to the car park, where you started the walk from.
