My Weekly Lupus Diary

Battling Sinuitis

It’s not been a fun week this week! I’ve had a nasty sinus infection.

I knew this time last week, there was something not right with my body. As I headed into this week, I just got worse and worse. Then Wednesday morning arrived. The pain, the pressure in my face. I felt as though I had an elephant sitting on my face. A feeling far too familiar! I knew at this moment, my sinuses were infected.

On Wednesday, I got prescribed a 7-day course of antibiotics. I also increased my steroids from 7mg to 20mg for 7-days and stopped my Methotrexate for the week. Today, 5 days later, after a lot of rest and sleeping, and inhaling a lot of steam, I’m starting to feel much more human. Still in a little bit of pain and a little tired, but so much better compared to how I was and certainly heading in the right direction.

Cuts And Poor Circulation

Does anyone else find this happens to you? I get a little cut on my hand. Instead of it healing nicely, the cut opens up wider and forms more of an ulcer. I keep getting this a lot recently. Then it becomes so sore and takes weeks and weeks to heal. All from one tiny cut. I know it’s down to my poor circulation in my fingers, but it’s so annoying!

Other Updates

We got Casper back! Sooooo happy! I’ve missed him so much. Yes, I am talking about our campervan, Casper. Alex went to pick him up on Friday. He’s had all his jobs done, and he’s good as new. So hopefully, next weekend will be back out on the road with him as long as I’m well. I can’t wait! We’ve got him a little Christmas tree. I’m actually more excited about getting back out on the road in Casper than I am about Christmas. Is that wrong?

In other news, were not moving before Christmas. At first, I was quite gutted, but I am now ok with it. We were originally planning on moving next week. But there have been some delays further down in the chain. In hindsight, I wouldn’t have been ready to move next week, after falling ill this week. I wouldn’t have been well enough this weekend to be boxing up our reminding stuff. I know the family would have offered to help, but I hate asking for help and relying on people. I always believe everything happens for a reason. Somebody was looking out for me this week. Plus, it will give us something nice to look forward to, in January.

The Booster

Alex got his booster vaccine this morning. He was literally skipping his way to doctors. Never seen anyone so happy about getting jabbed in their arm before!

For anyone who may not know, anyone who lives with someone who is severely immunocompromised is entitled to a free flu vaccine and the Covid booster. The flu vaccine you can get done at your own GP or pharmacy. Alex got his done a couple of months ago at our local Boots. They asked him a few questions and got him to tick a box to say he lived with someone immunocompromised. The booster, Alex had to go through the GP for it. It’s now actually written on his records he lives with someone immunocompromised, just make it easier for future years. He now feels royality having these extra privileges living with me.

It’s really good they are doing this for the seasonal vaccines. It’s extra protection for the people like myself. It’s like the NHS staff/care workers get vaccinated each year to protect the vulnerable. But for many years, I’ve also questioned, what about the people who live with someone vulnerable? There’s never been any protection there. Alex over the years has considered about paying for the flu jab, just to protect me. So I am grateful there is system now in place, espically when you’re someone like myself, who might not neccisally take on a good antibody count from the vaccine.

Anyways, that’s if from me this week. Alex is currently making some none-alchohlic mulled wine and singing along to Christmas music. He’s then going to get our Chirstmas tree out from the loft so we can make our home festive for the season and enjoy our last Christmas in this house. I’m currently getting an headache from looking at the screen and struggling to focus on anything I am writing. I need some new glasses asap. I’m booked in for the 29th, the closest appointment I could get. I need a stronger prescription and another prism fitted into my glasses. The hospital wrote a letter with the details on, but in order to get my new glasses with the prescription, I have to have an appointment at the opticions. It’s such a long winded approach. It’s so annoying because in the meantime, I have to struggle!

Until next week,

Goodbye for now

Emma
