Peebles is a beautiful town in the Scottish Borders. A town full of so much character!
There is plenty to do in Peebles, from visiting the independent shops, to visiting the museums/galleys, to enjoying a bit to eat. However, my favorite thing to do in the town is to take a walk along the picturesque River Tweed!
A beautiful 3-mile walk, that leads you along the banks of the River Tweed, passing by Neidpath Castle. It’s an easy walk, making it a great family-friendly route!
Location
Peebles is located in the heart of the Scottish Borders, just a 30-minute drive from the city of Edinburgh.
Parking
There are a few different parking spots dotted around the town. Some charge, some are free. We managed to get free on-street car parking, on one of the streets leading down to the town centre.
It doesn’t matter where you get parked, as the walk starts in the centre of Peebles. Just make sure, where you do get parked, it is within walking distance of the town centre. If you have a campervan, it’s worth using the park4night app, to find some parking: https://www.park4night.com/en
The Route
Follow this map, as you walk the route, and you shouldn’t get lost! Make sure your location is turned on and you should be able to see exactly where you are, on this map. Or if you prefer, download the GPX file and use it on your choice of route tracker.
Walk the route anti-clockwise!
1.
Starting in the town of Peebles, the north side of the Tweed Bridge. Take the path, leading you west along the River Tweed, passing by Peebles Swimming Pool.

Continue following the path, passing through Hay Lodge Park, until you eventually see Neidpath Castle up on the hillside.

Continue along the riverside path until you reach a viaduct. Take the steps up the side of the viaduct, and head across over the River Tweed.

As you reach the south banks of the river, turn to your left-hand side and join the path leading you east along the river. Just after joining the path, lookout for a dark tunnel on your right-hand side. If you dare, pop your head inside!
5.
Continue walking along the riverside path, towards Peebles. Eventually, you will reach the Tweed Bridge.
6.
Cross over the Tweed Bridge, and you should be back to where you started the walk from.
