Disney’s Animal Kingdom is a zoological theme park at the Walt Disney World Resort in Bay Lake, Florida. It is the 2nd largest theme park in the world, covering 403 acres.
I visited in December 2008 with my family. Some of the rides and shows I did/saw, may now have been changed. Pandora – The Avatar World in a new area to the park. Another change I have noticed since I visited, it now the cost to park your car for the day. When I visited back in 2008, car parking was free of charge. Car parking will cost you $25 for the day.
Here are some of the most popular attractions at the Animal Kingdom, which were at the park when I visited, back in 2008:
Expedition Everest – Legend Of The Forbidden Mountain
If you like a roller coaster, then you will really enjoy this one! Be prepared to climb up Everest, meet a Yeti, and travel backward! I held on for dear life while my dad had a camera in his hand, videoing the whole ride!
Fastpasses are available for this ride. There’s also a queue for single riders, which is a bit quicker than the normal queue, as longs as you don’t mind riding Everest on your own.
Kilimanjaro Safaris
Kilimanjaro Safari is a fun attraction for all the family. Travel like your on an African Safari, on an open-air safari vehicle, seeing different African animals, roaming freely. Best time to go; either first thing in the morning or at dusk. This is when the animals are the most active. We went first thing in the morning when we arrived at the park, around 9 am.
It’s Tough To Be A Bug
This is a 3D show, based on the film, ‘A Bug’s Life’. If you’re not a fan of creepy crawlies, I may give this one a miss!
Festival Of The Lion King
A fantastic show, full of dance, acrobats and music to sing-a-long to. Perfect for all the family. The show lasts 30 minutes and runs frequently throughout the day.
You can use a FastPass to get premium seating.
Kali River Rapids
Don’t mind getting soaked? Then you will enjoy this attraction. This ride takes you white-water rafting down the river, spinning around on turbulent waters. It is a fun ride, especially on a hot day.
Fastpasses are available for this ride. If you do want to use a FastPass, the queue tends to be shorter later in the day.
Finding Nemo – The Musical
Great performance, based on the movie, ‘Finding Nemo’. A great attraction for all the family to enjoy.
Discovery Island Trails
Would like to see some Galapagos, tortoises, lemurs, and cotton-top tamarins? Then it’s worth doing this trail. It’s also a great trail to do to escape the crowds.
Meeting the Characters
As you wander around the park, don’t forget to get photos taken with your favourite characters. I got to meet and have my photo taken with the following characters:
- King Louie from the Jungle Book
- Mickey Mouse and Mini Mouse
- Goofy
- Donald Duck
- Winnie the Pooh, Tigger and Eeyore
Jungle Parade
The Jungle Parade is so much fun to see. All your favourite characters, waving, dancing away to the music. If you want a good spot, get there early.
