family days out Florida Road Trips Theme Parks

Walt Disney Park – Magic Kingdom

Disney’s Magic Kingdom is a theme park at the Walt Disney World Resort in Bay Lake, Florida. The park opened back in 1971 and was the first of the 4 Disney theme parks to open. The park is home to the famous Cinderella Castle; inspired by the fairy tale castle seen in the 1950 film of Cinderella.

I visited in December 2008 with my family. Some of the rides and shows I did/saw, may now have been changed. One change I have noticed since I visited, it now the cost to park your car for the day. When I visited back in 2008, car parking was free of charge. Car parking will cost you $25 for the day.

Here are some of the most popular attractions at the Magic Kingdom, which I enjoyed and were at the park when I visited, back in 2008:

Space Mountain

Space Mountain is an indoor roller coaster in the dark. It is located in the Tomorrowland section of the park. I’m not one for big roller coasters however, this one I thoroughly enjoyed. The great thing about it being in the dark, you can’t see where the track goes, which means you can’t see the scary big drops. Perfect for people like myself, who does not like heights!

Fastpasses are available for this ride.

Tomorrowland Indy Speedway

Have you always wanted to have a go at driving your very own racing car? The ride, Tomorrowland Indy Speedway will make that dream come true. You get to drive your very own racing car around a track.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is a fun, family ride. You sit on a cart that moves around as you fire targets with a handheld laser gun. Your aim is to hit as many targets as you can, to again the highest score in your group.

Fastpasses are available.

Monster Inc. Laugh Floor

Monster Inc. Laugh Floor is a show for all the family. It is a show that will make you laugh. I highly recommend it.

Jungle Cruise

Jungle Cruise, located in the Adventureland section of the park, is a fun, comedy boat trip for all the family. The boat takes you along a river, visiting Asia, Africa, and South America, making you laugh along the way.

Fastpasses are available.

Pirates of the Caribbean

Pirates of the Caribbean, located in Adventureland is a fun, family boat ride. The boat takes you through some movie scenes, in the dark, with small, fun drops to travel down while singing along with Captain Jack Sparrow to the Pirates of the Caribbean theme tune. It’s a fun boat ride to do, just as longs as you are not scared of the dark.

Walt Disney Railroad

The Walt Disney Railroad is perfect for the whole family. It’s great if you want to give your feet a rest like we did or you want to tour right around the whole park. Even if you do not want to have a ride on it, don’t forget to get a picture with the train, the authentic steam-powered locomotive.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

The Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is one of my favourite rides at the Magic Kingdom, located in the Frontierland section of the park. It’s a fun, family, wooden roller coaster that travels through haunted gold mines. This is one ride not to be missed at the Magic Kingdom! We went on this ride more than once as we loved it that much!

Fastpasses are available.

Splash Mountain

Enjoy a good log flume? Then this ride is for you. Splash Mountain, located in Frontierland section of the park is a lovely relaxing boat ride that cruises by classical characters singing away. Just as your feeling very relaxed, it’s time to prepare yourself for a 5-story drop. As you shoot down the 5-story drop, the splash you get it, well let’s just say, we ended up soaked from head to toe! It’s fantastic on a hot day!

Fastpasses are available.

Meet the Characters

Don’t forget to get your photo with your favourite Disney character.

Parade

This is a ‘must-see’ on your visit to the Magic Kingdom. Watch your favourite characters dance and wave past you as they parade around the park. It feels ever so magical for all ages. Check the times of the parade on your arrival to the park, so you do not miss it. Get there in plenty of time to get a good spot.

Firework Display

Enjoy a magical firework and light display above the Cinderella Castle. This is one of the most spectacular displays I have ever seen. This is something not to be missed on your visit to the park. Check on arrival, the time of the display, and get your spot early as it does get very busy.
