family days out Florida Road Trips waterpark

Blizzard Beach, Disney Waterpark

Blizzard Beach is one of Disney’s water parks, located at the Walt Disney World Resort in Bay Lake, Florida. The park opened back in 1995 and was Disney World’s third water park.

I visited in December 2008 with my family. I remember the park as a fun water park, perfect for all the family. The pools were heated to a lovely, comfortable temperature, there were slides suitable for all age ranges and plenty of areas to sit back and relax in.

Here are just some of the slides and pools, Blizzard Beach has to offer:

Cross Country Creek

This was one of my favourite things to do at the water park. You get to sit back and chill out on a large rubber ring as you float down a 3,000 foot long lazy river through a polar themed paradise. You glide through caves and illuminated grottoes, under bridges, and past a lush green forest.

Cross Country Creek is perfect for all ages.

Chair Lift

If you are getting fed up with climbing 100s of steps every time you want to go down a waterslide, then why not catch the Chair Lift to the top of Mount Gushmore? Not only will you save your legs, but you will also see great views of the park.

To ride the Chair Lift, you must be at least 81cm tall.

Summit Plummet

If you love a good trill slide, then this is the one to do. I decided to give this one a miss! The Summit Plummet will plunge you 12 stories, almost vertically downwards, speeding through a darkened tunnel and into a massive spray of whitewater. It is the tallest, fastest freefall body slide around.

To ride the Summit Plummet, you need to be at least 122cm tall.

Toboggan Racers

This was so much fun! You get to race down headfirst on your belly to the bottom of Mount Gushmore. Race against 8 other team members, seeing who reaches the bottom of the 250-foot long slide with 3 exhilarating dips and hills on the way.

Toboggan Racers is suitable for all ages.

Melt-Away Bay

Melt-Away Bay is a 1 acre, heated wave pool, surrounded with a beach to relax and build sandcastles on.

The Bay is great for all ages.
