My Weekly Lupus Diary

Inflammation In My Eyelid

It’s been a lovely weekend! I’m currently sat in Casper, on the road heading home. Don’t panic I’m not actually driving! It’s been great to be back on the road again with him, after having two weeks off.

We had found the best camp spot last night in the Peak District, with views for miles! I think I spent more of my evening looking at the views than I did watching Gilmore Girls! Today, we went on a lovely walk along 2 of the edges in the Peaks: Curbar and White Edge. It was a lovely, easy-going walk, ticking off a trig point along the way. If anyone is interested, there are 88 trigs to tick off in the Peaks!

The Wolf And My Eyelids

I’ve been doing so much better this week with the wolf. My sinuses have been a bit up and down, but nowhere near as bad as the week before. They have returned back to my average normal daily sinus trouble if that makes any sense. My stomach and my joints have been so much better this week too.

The biggest issue I’ve had is with my eyes. I’ve had a lot of inflammation in my right eyelid, causing my eye to not fully open. There is a fancy name the hospital called it, but I can not remember to save my life! This affects my focus and leaves my eyes feeling very tired. My eye doctor have just said it’s my condition attacking my eyes and there’s not a lot they can do to prevent it. It’s more about getting my illness under control as a whole. I’ve suffered with it for a few years now. The flare sometimes last for a day, sometimes for a few weeks. At least it’s not constant. It doesn’t hurt, just very irrating as I can feel it’s there. I can feel my eye lid not open as wide as my other.

My Medical Check-Up

I was at the doctor’s this week having a health check. My BMI is just scraping 18.5. My weight is under 50kg, which I hate because every time I go into hospital as an in-patient, they give my child doses of Paracetamol. Absolutely drives me mad! If you weigh under 50kg, you’re only allowed 500mg of Paracetamol instead of 1000mg. I remember when I was last in hospital, the nurse stood there flusing a 1000mg strength bottle of infusion Paracetamol through my veins. Once it reached half a bottle, they disconnected it and said that’s all I’m allowed. So frustrating, especially when your in pain!

It annoyed me that much, I spent a lot of last year trying to get my weight above 50kg, by building muscle, lifting weights, eating high-calorie, healthy food. But with all my stomach problems, I just struggle to gain/keep the weight on. I try and eat a lot of nuts, protein bars, and protein shakes. I can’t eat big meals. So I try and make sure the food I am eating is calorie densed. I also snack a lot. I try and get my calorie intake up by my snacks I eat throughout the day. I have to eat regularly also, to prevent me getting hungry, otherwise I get a lot of acid trouble, and end up in so much pain and feeling very sick. I think I talked about this a couple of weeks ago, how I can’t let myself get hungry and how I can’t eat much in one sitting. If you missed that blog, here’s a link to it: My Gastro Appointment

In good news, my blood pressure and pulse are good!
