Llanddwyn Lighthouse
Anglesey Beach Hiking North Wales Wales Walks

Llanddwyn, The Most Scenic Lighthouse

If you have time for just one walk, one lighthouse, or one beach, then this is where you need to be! My favourite spot on the whole of Anglesey, ticking all 3 boxes!

The 4-mile walk will take you along one of the most picturesque beaches on the whole of the island, across a tidal causeway, and onto the beautiful Llanddwyn Island. At the far end, you will be greeted with the scenic Llanddwyn Lighthouse. The whole setting is beautiful! On a clear day you can see Snowdonia National Park.

Please be careful crossing the causeway. Llanddwyn Island gets blocked off at very high tides for 1 to 2 hours.

Location

Llanddwyn Island is located on the far southwest side of the Isle of Anglesey. The nearest town is Newborough, located 3-miles northeast.

Parking

To visit Llanddwyn, there is a large car park called Newborough Warren & Ynys Llanddwyn Car Park. At the time we visited, it cost £2 for the first 2 hours or £7 for an all-day ticket.

The Route

Follow this map, as you walk the route, you shouldn’t get lost! Make sure your location is turned on and you should be able to see exactly where you are, on this map. Or if you prefer, download the GPX file and use it on your choice of route tracker.

1.

Starting at the car park, head northwest, out of the car park, along the track through the forest. Follow the track, until you reach a junction. Take the track going off to your left-hand side, and follow it towards a small car park. At the car park, head onto the beach. Walk towards your right-hand side, along the sand, across the causeway, and onto Llanddwyn Island.

2.

On Llanddwyn Island, there are a few different paths to choose from. It doesn’t particularly matter which one you take, as long as you are heading towards the lighthouse. We then choose a different path coming off the island. It’s very easy to navigate. If you are a bit unsure, just follow the map, and check you are on one of the paths we walked on.

3.

As you head off the island, cross the causeway and walk along the beach to the car park. It is hard to tell where to come off the beach to get to the car park. So please keep a close eye on the map.
