Beach England family days out Northumberland

Northumberland Beaches

The Northumberland coast is home to 30 miles of beautiful, sandy beaches. Here are my favourite beaches in Northumberland:

Bamburgh Beach

Bamburgh Beach is one of my favourite beaches to visit. It’s not just an average, golden-sand beach. The lovely, wide, sandy beach has a fantastic view of one of the UK’s most iconic castles, Bamburgh Castle, the world-famous Farne Islands and views of Holy Island. To reach the beach you have to walk over several sand dunes.

If you are arriving by car, we parked in the Bamburgh Castle car park, costing us £3 for the day. There is a gate at the back of the car park, which leads you onto the sand dunes, following a narrow path across them, down to the beach.

Rumbling Kern

Rumbling Kern is known as the secret beach. The tiny beach is located in a rocky cove, south of Cullernose Point, not far from Howick Hall. There is short walk down to it on a little, well-worn path.

To find the path, we typed in Bathing Hall, Howick on our car Sat Nav. As you drive to Bathing Hall, you will see a little parking area. This is where the walk starts to take you down to the beach.

Apparently, Rumbling Kern was once the haunt of whiskey smugglers, selling their illegal products, up and down the coastline. Luckily, that’s now in history and today, the beach has become an award-winning, secretive beach.

Warkworth Beach

Warkworth Beach is less than a mile away from historic Warkworth village, between Birling Carrs and Amble Breakwater. The beach is beautiful. It has pristine, golden sand, stretching as far as the eye can see. We visited for sunset. It was lovely and peaceful.

The car park for the beach is free of charge, with a short walk down to the beach, crossing over the end of a golf course.
