One Happy Wolf Despite Rashes

Hope you are all having a great weekend! I’ve had such a wholesome weekend, catching up with some good friends!

I Saw Puffins!

Last weekend, you might remember me saying how I was planning on heading off to Flamborough to try and see the Puffins. In the end, we decided to head over to Bempton Cliffs instead. Honestly, I could not have made a better decision! Not only did I see lots of puffins, and one very beautiful sunset, I even saw a Barn Owl. I was literally on cloud-9!

If you are interested in seeing the Puffins, I’ve written a full guide for Bempton Cliffs:

The Wolf

The wolf is happy at the moment! In fact, he’s very happy! I’m still drinking my cucumber juice and I’ve been eating a lot of watermelon too, which is also rich in anti-inflammatory properties. The key is, if you’ve got Lupus or an illness that causes high levels of inflammation in the body, look for foods with have high anti-inflammatory properties. But also remember, if you are on medication to suppress your immune system, it’s important to try and avoid foods that boost your immune system too much.

For example, I wouldn’t recommend ginger shots. Even though ginger shots are fantastic at reducing inflammation in your body, they also give your immune system a very good boost. If you have an overactive immune system, as you do with Lupus, the last thing you went to do, is encourage your already overactive immune system to become even more active. It’s probably not going to make you feel well! It certainly doesn’t me! (Yes, I’ve made that mistake!)

Rashes

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been covered in so many Lupus rashes from the sun! Thankfully, the rashes aren’t making me feel unwell! They are just a bit ugly to look at! Most of them are starting to slowly clear up now since the lack of sunshine we’ve had this month. Well most of them, except the ones on my face, which seem to be hanging around longer than I would like.

I know I can get steroid cream prescribed to help to get rid of my rashes. But I’ve decided not to! It’s not good to use it a lot, especially on the face, as it can thin the skin. Since my rashes aren’t causing me any bother, I will just leave them to clear up on their own!

Blood Results

This week I had to get repeated blood tests done for my kidneys. My kidney readings were a bit too high on my previous blood sample. Thankfully, they have come back down this week, so there’s nothing to worry about. But to be honest, it’s not uncommon for me to have high creatine levels in my blood tests. So I wasn’t too worried! My rheumatology team has always kept a very close eye on them! I’ve had a lot of tests done over the years, to check my kidneys are still functioning ok.

That’s it from me this week! I’m going to take a couple of weekends off from my blog. Next week I’m away in Casper in the Peak District, meeting up with some friends. The following weekend, I’m at my niece’s 2nd birthday party. So I’ll be back the first weekend in August, with hopefully still a very happy wolf!

Speak to you soon,

Emma
