Day 8  of my 2-week road trip

Tropical Islands – Sachsenhausen – Berlin – Dresden – Prague – Vienna – Devin Castle – Sandberg – Bratislava – Lake Balaton – Bokodi – Budapest

As part of our 2-week road trip across Europe, my partner and I decided to stop by Sandberg on the way to Bratislava, after visiting Devin Castle.

Sandberg is one of Slovakia’s most important sites. This extremely protected area is rich in fossil remains of marine coastal and terrestrial fauna and flora from 14 – 16 million years ago when there used to be sea here. Not only is it a place to see the fossils, but it is also a place to see some beautiful panoramic views.

The place is free to look around and open all year. If you have more time on your hand, there are some lovely walks to do in the area. Unfortunately, we did not have to do any.

Location

It is located just 12 km for the Bratislava city centre and just down the road from Devin Castle. We drove to Sandberg by car. You can park your car for free nearby on the streets. If you do not have a car you can get a taxi or catch the bus 29 from Most SNP bus station in the centre of Bratislava. It will take you around 25 minutes on the bus.
