The Famous Four Waterfall Trail

The Four Waterfall Trail is a beautiful hike for waterfalls lovers! Located in Waterfall County, it’s a walk great for the whole family! It is one of the most popular walks to do in the Brecon Beacon National Park!

The trail is just short of 6 miles, leading you to four different, beautiful waterfalls. One of them, Sgwd Yr Eira Waterfall, you can actually step behind, which is so much fun!

The four waterfalls are:

– Sgwd Clun-Gwyn Waterfall

– Sgwd Isaf Clun-Gwyn

– Sgwd y Pannwr

– Sgwd Yr Eira Waterfall

You can walk the Four Waterfall Trail from a few different locations. The main route is from the Four Water Trail Cwm Porth car park, just before you get to the Village of Ystradfellte. However, no Campervans or Motorhomes are allowed in this car park. Therefore, we decided to do the walk from the Comin Y Rhos car park, near the Clyngwyn Farm Bunkhouse and Cafe, which actually makes the walk slightly shorter.

Location

The Four Waterfall Trail is located in Waterfall County, just south of the Village of Ystradfellte.

Parking

There is a very small car park at Comin Y Rhos, near the Clyngwyn Farm Bunkhouse and Cafe. My advice is to get there early to get parked, as it does get full quickly! The car park is suitable for Campervans and Motorhomes.

Please note: If you are in a Campervan or a Motorhome, I recommend driving up from the Village of Pontneddfechan to get to the car park. The road from the Village of Ystradfellte is fairly narrow and not great for Motorhomes.

The Route

Follow this map, as you walk the route, you shouldn’t get lost! Make sure your location is turned on and you should be able to see exactly where you are, on this map. Or if you prefer, download the GPX file and use it on your choice of route tracker.

We walked the trail anticlockwise!

1.

Starting at the Comin Y Rhos car park, head East, along the lane, signposted to the Clyngwyn Farm Bunkhouse and Cafe. Very shortly, you should reach a gate, signposted, the Waterfall Trail.

2.

Head through the gate, and follow the path around to another gate. Head through the 2nd gate, and follow the path as it leads you down towards a bridge.

3.

Cross over the bridge and take the footpath going off to your right-hand side. Follow the path until you reach another path junction. Take the path going off to your right-hand side, leading you down to your first waterfall, Sgwd Clun-Gwyn Waterfall.

4.

From Sgwd Clun-Gwyn Waterfall, return back towards the path you were originally on. At the path junction, cross over the path, and continue heading uphill, travelling Eastwards. Very shortly, you should reach another crossroads. Here, take the path going off to your right-hand side and follow it, heading south.

If you are not sure, please use the map to navigate.

5.

Eventually, you should see a path going off to your right-hand side, signposted Sgwd Yr Eira Waterfall. Take the path down. Shortly, you will come to another path junction, with a path going off to your left-hand side, leading you down to Sgwd Yr Eira Waterfall.

6.

Take the steep steps down to Sgwd Yr Eira Waterfall. At the bottom, be careful as you step across the wet slippery rocks. This is the waterfall you can step behind! What a great experience it is!

7.

After you’ve enjoyed getting a bit of a splash from Sgwd Yr Eira Waterfall, make your way back up the steps, towards the main path. As you reach the main path, turn towards your left-hand side, and follow the path, travelling I’m a westerly direction to Sgwd Isaf Clun-Gwyn and Sgwd y Pannwr waterfalls.

8.

Shortly, you should see a path going off to your left-hand side, signposted Sgwd Isaf Clun-Gwyn and Sgwd y Pannwr waterfalls. Take the path and follow it down towards the river. The first waterfall you will come to is Sgwd y Pannwr.

9.

From Sgwd y Pannwr, follow the path, traveling north along the riverbed to Sgwd Isaf Clun-Gwyn.

10.

From Sgwd Isaf Clun-Gwyn, retrace your steps back along the path, passing Sgwd y Pannwr, and back up the embankment. As you reach the main path, turn towards your left-hand side and follow it north, as it loops wound back towards the path junction for the 1st waterfall, Sgwd Clun-Gwyn Waterfall.

From the Sgwd Clun-Gwyn Waterfall path junction, stay on the main path, and follow it back round to the bridge. Cross over the bridge and follow the path back up to the car park, passing back through the two gates along your way.
