Iceland is a volcanic island full of thermal pools and hot springs. Your visit to Iceland is not complete, without having a dip in one of the thermal pools. Here are just two of them; the two I have visited. Blue Lagoon is located in the South of the Island and Myvatn Nature Baths are located in the North of the island.
Myvatn Nature Baths
The Myvatn Nature Baths are located in the north of Iceland, 81 km east from Akureyri. The water supply for the lagoon runs straight from the National Power Company’s borehole in Bjarnarflag, using 3.5 million litres of water to fill the lagoon, at a temperature between 36 – 40°C. Perfect temperature for a relaxing soak. The sulphur in the pool is meant to be good if you suffer from Asthma and other respiratory problems.
A large majority of people choose to visit the Blue Lagoons when they visit Iceland due to their location. However, if you are after somewhere not as touristy, a bit quieter and cheaper; then these are the baths for you. Admission will cost you just over ÂŖ30 in the summer months and just under ÂŖ30 in the winter months. A lot cheaper compared to the Blue Lagoon admission price, which cost us a shocking ÂŖ66 each to visit.

Blue Lagoon
The Blue Lagoon located in the heart of the Reykjanes UNESCO Geopark, just 20 minutes from Keflavik Airport and 50 minutes from the capital, Reykjavik. Surrounded by the beautiful volcanic landscape, it is a perfect place to relax.
The Blue Lagoon offers a range of different packages to choose from. We went for the cheapest, the basic package, costing us ÂŖ66 each. With the basic package, you get a towel, a free mud facemask, a free drink at the pool bar, and unlimited time in the lagoon. It may seem a lot of money for what it is, I do agree with you. However, if you are planning a trip to Iceland and are not planning on driving to the north of the country, I defiantly recommend you pay the visit here; it is a place you will not forget! It has become one of my most memorable New Year Eve’s. What a better than to end the year then relaxing in a sulphur pool, surrounded by volcanic scenery, in temperatures below freezing.
After a relaxing session in the pool, we enjoyed a bit of lunch in the cafe. The cafe is very expensive, however, it is a lovely place to sit and relax in with a drink while enjoying the view of the lagoon.
