The Isle of Anglesey is a Welsh island off the coast of North Wales. It’s connected to the mainland by two bridges: the Menai Suspension Bridge and the Britannia Bridge. It is the largest island in Wales and the 5th largest in Britain. Anglesey is separated from mainland Wales by the Menai Strait.
Here are my top 10 things to do on the beautiful Isle of Anglesey:
1. Walk The Coastal Path
There is a 124 miles (200km) long walking route that travels around the whole edge of the Isle of Anglesey. You can choose to walk it all, over a few days, or you can just walk a little section of it. The trail is very well marked and takes you to some very beautiful spots. We choose to walk a few different sections of the long-distance trail. Every section we did, did not disappoint one bit!
2. Visit Penmon Lighthouse
Penmon Lighthouse is a beautiful lighthouse located at Penmon Point, northeast of Anglesey. It is one of the island’s most visited lighthouses!
To visit the lighthouse you have to pay. At the time we visited it cost £5 for a van/campervan, £3 for a car, and £10 for a motorhome.
3. Walk To Llanddywn Lighthouse
Llanddywn Lighthouse, on Llanddywn Island us a ‘must see’ when on the Isle of Anglesey. It’s located on the southwest side of Anglesey. It’s my favourite spot on the island. It’s just beautiful! On a clear day, you can see Snowdonia National Park in the distance.

4. Climb Holyhead Mountain
If you are a hiker then you definitely need to be ticking this one off on your list! Holyhead Mountain is the highest mountain on the Isle of Anglesey. Located in Holyhead on Holy Island, it sits at 220 metres (720 feet) above sea level. It’s not very high, but the views at the top make the climb worthwhile!

5. Visit South Stack Lighthouse
South Stack Lighthouse is built on a small island on the northwest coast of Anglesey. It’s a lovely little lighthouse to visit. You can pay to go onto the island and visit the lighthouse. At the time of writing this blog, it cost £5.80 for a ticket to go onto the island and have look around the lighthouse. On our visit, we decided to do a walk-up Holy Mountain from here. It was a lovely walk I highly recommend doing.

6. Climb Pary Mountin, The Copper Kingdom
Pary Mountain, The Copper Kingdom, located in the northeast, is one incredible place! It’s like you have left earth and stepped onto another planet. I’ve never seen anything like it before! The copper from here used to get taken to Amlwch Port and then shipped all around the world. The Copper Kingdom became a disused quarry in 1860.
Today, it has become a popular tourist attraction in Anglesey. The best way to see it is by walking one of the trails around it.

7. Visit The Village With The Longest Name In Europe
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch is the village with the longest name in Europe. The locals shorten it to Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, to make it fit on signs easier. I don’t blame them!
To get the photo with the village name, the full 52 characters, head to the train station. There is a couple of signs up there with it in full.
8. Drive Across Menai Suspension Bridge
The famous Menai Suspension Bridge was built in 1826, and it was the world’s first major suspension bridge. It was the biggest suspension bridge in the world at the time but certainly isn’t now. Looks tiny compared to some other ones I’ve travelled across! It connects Anglesey with the mainland.
9. Enjoy The Views Along The Menai Strait
The Menai Strait is the famous body of water that sits between Anglesey and the mainland. They offer boat rides along the Menai Strait. If a boat trip isn’t your thing, there are a number of viewpoints along the A4080 road. Definitely worth pulling over in one and seeing the view, it’s just beautiful!
10. Take A Dip In The Irish Sea
It’s not every day you get to dip your feet in the Irish Sea! There are some really beautiful beaches to visit, with crystal clear water. We visited end of August and the water was surprisingly warm!
