It’s been a busy week with medical appointments! Three appointments in one week! But a least I’ve got them all out of the way in one week, and not have them spread out over a few weeks. It’s always a nice feeling when you get to a Sunday night and you think of the week ahead, knowing you have no appointments to worry about.
Ultrasound
My week started with an early morning Ultrasound. This went well, apart from having to fast for the examination, which made me feel a little unwell after. My body just can’t cope without food/fasting! In good news, the Ultrasound showed all my organs looking healthy, including my liver. Basically, confirming my steroids had helped to repair my liver, and no damage had been done, or no other problem found. So I was happy! It’s always lovely to receive good news!
Gastro Appointment
That afternoon, I was back again at the hospital, this time for an appointment with my Gastro consultant. This went, well how I kind of expected it to go. However, she was lovely with me, understanding, and showed a bit of sympathy, which helped with the news I kind of didn’t want to get told but knew probably was going to get told. You can tell she wants to help me, but really running out of answers on what she can do.
Basically, she thinks all the medication I’m taking is making me feel ill with my stomach, but I need them and currently can’t change them. They are managing my illness well, which is important. But she thinks maybe that’s what’s giving me belly ache and nausea every day, Then there’s the dose of PPIs I’m on to protect my stomach from my medication. It’s not ideal either but again is needed. She explained how it’s about weighing out the pros and cons with it all, which I guess does make sense.
She then said there’s just one test she wants to do on me, that hasn’t been done. She is doing is getting me tested for Coeliac disease. I don’t think I have it, and I really hope not. I don’t need any more food restrictions than I already have! But I guess it does not harm getting tested for it. She just wants to rule it out, as some of my symptoms are the same as what Coeliac disease can cause. Also because I have an autoimmune disease, I’m more likely to develop others too, apparently. For anyone who doesn’t know, Coeliac is an autoimmune disease.
Smear Test
On Wednesday, I went to my GP for my yearly Smear Test. However, I didn’t actually have it done. My nurse was lovely with me. She basically said there’s no point putting me through an extra Smear Test, as the hospital wants to see me regardless. She said I’m due for my Gynecology appointment in July, where they’re going to repeat another Smear Test and apparently do something else, that I cannot remember the name of. So there was me last week hoping I would not need my yearly hospital visit to Gynecology. I apparently never even left their register. I know it’s a good thing! As unpleasant as it may be, it’s also very important!
That’s it from me this week. I’m away in Casper next weekend, so going to take a week off from writing my blog. As much as I love writing these blogs, they do take a lot of time to write, and some weekends I do find time to write them difficult. When I first started writing these blogs, my health was in a bad way, and my quality of life was poor. My weekends were spent resting at home, often unwell, unable to do anything. My blogs became a bit of therapy for me while helping many of you along the way, sharing my experiences. Currently, my health seems to be so much better (I know it may not sound like it on this blog, but honestly is), and I now have a life, which means I’m struggling to find the time to write them. I do still want to write up them, as I know many of you enjoy reading them each week. So my plan is, if I am going away, I probably won’t write one that week. So basically, if there is no blog on a Sunday, it means I’m out enjoying my Sunday, probably in Casper, somewhere in the mountains, feeling well with the wolf.
Exicting Plans For September
Talking on that note, we’ve got a 2-week European road trip to start planning with Casper, for September. I’m so excited to take him across to mainland Europe! We were going to fly out to Europe and do a road trip in a car/hotel, but with the whole airport situation, we’ve decided to take Casper across might be a better idea. Plus after the tantrum he gave us, after leaving him at home, while we had fun in America, it honestly wasn’t worth it. You think I’m joking? He tried giving us engine failure on the way to the Lakes a couple of weeks ago. That wasn’t all, he then decided he would burn out one of his batteries while we were there. We now have to mess about replacing, thanks Casper! He really did sulk with us! So basically it’s easier and cheaper for us to take him with us!
Anyways, that’s it from me this week.
See you in a fortnight!
Emma
