The Ostrog Monastery is a monastery of the Serbian Orthodox Church, built-in 1665. It is situated against an almost vertical background, high up in the large rock of Ostroška Greda, providing fantastic views of the Bjelopavlići plain.
Getting There
Ostrog Monastery is about 2 an hour’s drive from the coast and an hour’s drive from the capital, Podgorica. The road leading up to the Monastery is narrow and windy with herping bends and steep drops. If you are not a confident driver, it may be worth considering going with a tour company or using a local taxi. Car parking at the Monastery is free.
Your Visit
To visit inside the Monastery, correct clothing must be worn. Shoulders need to be covered and trousers or long skirts must be worn on your legs. Some women will choose to cover their heads with a headscarf. This is optional.
You can visit the upper and lower Monastery. We only visited the upper Monastery. If you do want to walk from the lower to the upper Monastery, it is a 2-mile walk uphill, through a woodland area. If you park at the upper Monastery car park, there is still a little walk up to the Monastery. Disabled car parking spots are separate, located next to the Monastery.
