Portree is a colourful town and the capital of the Isle Of Skye. It’s a beautiful town to stop off and stock up on fresh food, gifts, and fuel, before heading onto other areas on the island.
On our stop for fresh food in Portree, we decided to get out and stretch our legs on a beautiful 3-mile circular walk. The Scorrybreac Trail is a famous walk to do in the area. The route is a gentle walk, along Loch Portree and up into the hillside, seeing the famous colourful houses along the way.
On this map, the route starts from Mill Road, which is where we parked our Camper Van. If you are parking at Scorrybeac Trail car park, the route will be shorter, as you will be missing out on the bit of walk we did from Mill Road.
Below, are my step-by-step directions. These go from the start of the trailhead, at Scorrybeac Carpark, and not where we parked our camper van.
Location
Portree is located towards the north of Skye, just a 47-minute drive from the Sky Bridge. The Scorrybreac Trail starts not too far from the Cuillin Hills Hotel, along the Loch edge.
Parking
There isn’t a lot of parking available. We got lucky and managed to find a free parking spot along Mill Road, not too far from the start of the walk. There is a car park at the start of the walk, but it is only small.
The Route
Follow this map, as you walk the route, you shouldn’t get lost! Make sure your location is turned on and you should be able to see exactly where you are, on this map. Or if you prefer, download the GPX file and use it on your choice of route tracker.

Starting at Scorrybreac Trailhead, follow the path leading you along the loch edge. You will pass a wishing well along the way. Remember to make a wish. You never know, it may come true!

Eventually, you will reach a path junction. Take the path going off to your left-hand side, up the hillside. There will be a little bit of uphill climbing, as it zig-zags up.

After a short climb up, you will soon reach another path junction. Take the path going off to your left-hand side and follow it, through the trees, passing some houses, as you head back down to where you started the walk from.
