We’ve woken up to a right wet morning in Scotland. Currently parked on grass and actually getting quite concerned that we might end up getting stuck on it if we don’t move soon!
Yesterday, we started the famous NC 500. A 500-mile route that goes right around the north of Scotland. It’s what they call the Scottish version of Route 66. So far it’s been lovely. We celebrated Alex’s 30th the day before, where I announce the surprise plan for his birthday trip. He just thought we were planning on spending his full 30th birthday trip in the Cairngorms National Park. NC 500 has been on our bucket list for a few years now, so we’re both over the moon to finally been doing it! For anyone who doesn’t know us, we love a good road trip!
Today, we plan to head up onto John O’Groats, the most northerly point on Britain’s mainland.
Here’s our trip so far in photos:

Sinusitis
The start of this week was just horrible! I was in a lot of pain with my sinuses. Painkillers were helping with the pain but weren’t taking it away fully. I knew by Monday morning, they were infected, just the amount of pain I was in. So I rang the doctors and got some antibiotics.
Normally, I get prescribed Doxycycline for sinusitis. It’s the best antibiotic for it, well in my opinion. But after all the drama I had a few years ago, going to Scotland on Doxycycline and coming home with 2nd-degree burns. The doctor decided Amoxicillin was the sensible antibiotic to prescribe. For anyone who doesn’t know, Doxycycline can make you very sun-sensitive. Enough to a point were factor 50 sun cream doesn’t even work! It was a complete nightmare!
The first few days on Amoxicillin felt as though it wasn’t doing anything. I worried it wasn’t working. I came home from work each night and just cried from the pain. You put a brave face on all day long, hiding the pain, trying to drug yourself up with as much pain relief as possible just to get you through the day. By the evening, you’re tired from fighting it, you have nothing else to give it. It was just awful! I just went to bed and slept.
But then that day arrived. The day when I felt the antibiotics kicking in. I was so happy! Every day since then, they have got better and better. Today is my second to last day on my course of antibiotics. My sinuses are finally feeling back to normal. This week reminded me how nasty sinusitis can be!
That’s it from me this week, keeping it short as I want to off on the road again and get off this grass. I would have written it on the road, but the last couple of days I’ve been feeling quite car sick from looking down at my phone. I don’t normally get car sick. But to be fair, the roads have been super windy here, but so picturesque.
Until next week,
Stay safe
Goodbye for now
