Baslow Edge, Peak District
Hiking Peak District National Park Walks

A Short Walk Along Baslow Edge

Baslow Edge, located in the beautiful Peak District National Park is a picturesque edge to walk across. The edge is only about a mile long, and the route starts almost at the top, making it a nice, easy weekend or evening stroll. As you head along the edge, you will be rewarded with views for miles and miles. If you are lucky, you might bump into some adorable Highland Coo’s too. I absolutely love them! We saw some baby calves too.

This route is a lovely circular. It is just over 2-miles long in distance. The route leads you along the top of Baslow Edge to Wellington Monument and then loops back round on the side of Baslow Edge. The path is well-marked, however, I would keep a close eye on the map as you come off Baslow Edge. There are lots of different paths going off in all different directions.

Location

Baslow Edge is located on the east side of the Peak District National Park, in between Curbar and Baslow village. It’s located just 9-miles west of Chesterfield.

Parking

The walk starts at the National Trust Curbar Car Park. If the car park is full, there are some more spaces just down the road too, where we decided to park.

The Route

Follow this map, as you walk the route, you shouldn’t get lost! Make sure your location is turned on and you should be able to see exactly where you are, on this map. Or if you prefer, download the GPX file and use it on your choice of route tracker.

1.

Starting at the car park we parked at, just down the road from the National Trust car park. Turn to your left-hand side, and head uphill. Very shortly you will see a footpath going off to your right-hand side. Take the footpath. If you are starting in the National Trust car park, turn towards your right-hand side, and walk downhill. Very shortly you will see a footpath going off to your left-hand side. Take the footpath.

2.

Follow the footpath through the gate, and along Baslow Edge. Eventually, you will reach a crossroad-style path junction. If you want to visit Wellington Monument as we did, take the path going off in front. After visiting the monument, return back to the same path, back to the crossroads, and take the footpath going off to your left-hand side down off Baslow Edge. If you want to miss out on Wellington Monument, at the crossroads, take the path going off to your right-hand side.

3.

Follow the path off Baslow Edge. You will soon reach a footpath going off to your right-hand side. Take the footpath and follow it to the next path junction. For the next two path junctions, take the footpath going off to your right-hand side. You will then reach another path junction, a crossroad. If you are parked where we were parked, take the path leading straight on. If you are parked in the National Trust car park, take the path going off towards your right-hand side. Follow your chosen footpath back to where you started the walk from.
