Grindelwald-First Most Popular Hike: Lake Bachalpsee

If you are heading up Gindelwald’s-First Gondola, this walk to the twin lakes of Bachalpsee is a must! It’s one of the most popular hikes in Grindelwald!

It’s an easy, 4.5-mile out-and-back walk, on well-marked paths. Perfect for the whole family!

Location

The walk starts at the Grindelwald-First Gondola Station. For more information on how to get there, please refer to my blog:

Everything You Need To Know On Grindelwald-First

Parking

Grindelwald has two public car parks: Parkhaus Eiger+ and Parkhaus Sportzentrum. They are both roughly a 10 to 15 minute walk away from the gondola station.

The Route

Follow this map, as you walk the route, you shouldn’t get lost! Make sure your location is turned on and you should be able to see exactly where you are, on this map. Or if you prefer, download the GPX file and use it on your choice of route tracker.

1.

Starting at the First Gondola Station, take the trail marked Lake Bachalpsee. The path should lead you uphill, travelling northwest, away from the gondola station.

2.

Continue following the footpath as it winds up, through some cattle fields, towards Lake Bachalpsee. Listen out for the bells on the Swiss cow!

3.

As you continue along the footpath, you should eventually arrive at the twin lakes of Bachalpsee. Take a moment to enjoy the view at both, and even grab a bite to eat!

4.

Once you’ve finished enjoying the view at Lake Bachalpsee, return back to First Gondola Station, following the same footpath you came on.
