If hiking Slemenova Spica needs isn’t on your bucket list, get it added! Honestly, this has to be one of my favourite all-time hikes!
Slemenova Spica is a mountain, standing at 1911 metres above sea level, located in the beautiful Julian Alps of Slovenia. The walk itself starts at the top of the Vrsic Pass, between the two mountain towns: Bovec and Kranjska Gora. To get to the start of the route, driving from Kranjska Gora, be prepared to drive up a lot of hairpin bends!
Difficulty
The climb to the summit isn’t a difficult climb. However, a good level of fitness is required as the climb up to the summit is steep at times. Remember, you are in the mountains so good footwear and clothing in a must!
Location
Slemenova Spica is located in the Julian Alps, north of Slovenia, between the mountain towns of Bovec and Kranjska Gora. The route up Slemenova Spica, starts at the top of the scenic Vrsic Pass, in the Triglav National Park.
Parking
There is a free, small, gravel car park at the top of the Vrsic Pass, where the route starts from. As it is only small, I recommend getting there early to get a spot, as it does get very busy!

The Route
Follow this map, as you walk the route, you shouldn’t get lost! Make sure your location is turned on and you should be able to see exactly where you are, on this map. Or if you prefer, download the GPX file and use it on your choice of route tracker.
1.
Starting at the car park, cross over the road and take the path leading you north, up the mountainside. Follow it steeply uphill, until you reach a path junction.
2
At the path junction, take the path leading off straight in front of you, heading north. Continue to follow the path as it bends round to your left-hand side. Eventually, you will see a path forking off to your right-hand side. Do not take that path, instead carry on the path you are on until you reach a 2nd path junction.
If you are unsure, please check the map!
3.
At the 2nd path junction, take the path going off to your right-hand side. Follow the path up to the summit of Slemenova Spica.
4.
Once you’ve finished enjoying the views at the summit, retrace your steps back to where you started the route from.
If you are unsure at any point, please check the map!
