Latrigg is such a beautiful Wainwright to climb! The walk-up isn’t too strenuous, and on a clear day, the views at the summit are breathtaking!
Latrigg stands at 368 metres (1,207 feet) above sea level, making it the 9th smallest Wainwright. With it being only a little fell, it makes a great evening hike to catch the sunset or a great first Wainwright for your kids to tick off!
There are a few different routes up Latrigg. The route I am sharing with you goes from the Town of Keswick. If you have a campervan, this is the route I recommend you take. There is a small car park, nearer to the summit of Latrigg, which makes the climbing shorter and easier. However, getting your campervan up to that car park is not ideal!
Location
Latrigg is located just north of the Town of Keswick, in the Northern Fells of the Lake District National Park.
Parking
There are many different places you can park in the Town of Keswick. As we own a campervan, we always prefer to park in the Lakeside Car Park. Therefore, this route starts and finishes at the Lakeside Car Park.
If you choose to park elsewhere in Keswick, that’s ok. Just use my map below, and see where you can join onto my route.

The Route
Follow this map, as you walk the route, and you shouldn’t get lost! Make sure your location is turned on and you should be able to see exactly where you are, on this map. Or if you prefer, download the GPX file and use it on your choice of route tracker.
This walk starts from the Lakeside Car Park.
1.
Starting at the Lakeside Car Park, head north out of the car park, into the centre of Keswick. Head through the centre, travelling northeast, until you reach the bridge going over the River Greta.
The easiest way to navigate through the Town of Keswick without getting lost is by following my map above, with your location turned on.
2.
Head over the bridge, and along the edge of Upper Fitz Park, towards Keswick Leisure Pool. As you reach Keswick Leisure Pool, take the footpath that leads you around the right-hand side of the building and into the car park.
3.
Head north out of the car park, towards the mini roundabout. Here you should see a narrow footpath going off to your left-hand side, at the back of some houses. Take the footpath and follow it until it comes to an end. As the narrow footpath comes to an end, join the footpath on the edge of Brundholme Road.
4.
Very shortly, you should see a lane going off to your right-hand side, leading to Spooney Green Farm. Take the lane and follow it until you reach a gate.
5.
Head through the gate, and follow the path up through the woods. As you head up, you will pass by a couple of paths leading off to the right-hand side. Eventually, you will reach a path forking sharply off to your right-hand side, marked Latrigg Summit.
If you are unsure at all, please check the map!
6.
Take the path marked Latrigg Summit. Follow the path as it leads you to the summit of Latrigg. Not sure exactly where the actual summit of Latrigg is, as there is no actual trig marking it. However, we picked what looked like the highest point as the summit!
7.
Once you’ve finished enjoying your views at the summit, start making your way back down, retracing your steps back down to the Lakeside Car Park, where you started the walk.
If you are unsure at any point, please check the map!
