Hiking Walks Yorkshire Yorkshire Wolds/Coastline

Millington 6 Mile Circular

Millington Walk is a beautiful, moderate hike, which takes you into the Yorkshire Wolds. The walk is just under 6 miles, taking you along well marked footpaths through a cattle field, along part of the Yorkshire Wold’s Way and part of the Minster Way, along edges of beautiful corn fields and up and down the hills, allowing you to see views for miles and miles.

My partner and I completed this walk on a Monday, in June. Even on a week day, the walk seemed quite popular with ramblers.

Location

The route starts in Millington Village, 3 miles north-east of Pocklington, near the Rambler’s Tearoom. If you are driving using your Satnav, use this postcode: YO42 1TX.

Parking

We parked outside the Rambler’s Tearoom, on the street. The street parking is free of charge. When we visited on a Monday, there was plenty of spaces. Not sure what it’s like on a weekend.

Route

Follow this map, as you walk the route, you shouldn’t get lost! Make sure your location is turned on and you should be able to see exactly where you are, on this map. Or if you prefer, download the GPX file and use it on your choice of route tracker.

1.

Start at Rambler’s Tearoom. Walk up the road, with the Rambler’s Tearoom on your right-hand side. Follow the road as it bends around to the left. Look out for a wooden signpost making the Minster Way. Turn right at the wooden signpost and head downhill onto the track, passing through the gate.

2.

As you reach the farm house, take the narrow board-walk path. The path is located on the right-hand side of the farm house, with a pond. Continue, through the gate, following the path through the cattle field, still following the Minster Way footpath sign. The path takes up up the hill and steers round to the right. As you steer round to the right, the fence marking the edge of the field, should now be located on your left-hand side. Eventually you will reach a gate. Head through the gate and continue walking straight forward, up the hill, through the horse field.

3.

As you reach the top of the horse field, you will notice the Yorkshire Wold’s Way signpost. Turn left and follow the footpath. As you reach the farm house, continue walking straight forward. The path will lead you along the right-hand side of another field. Keep following the path along the outside of the field, down the hill, until you reach a gate.

4.

As you reach the gate, pass through it and follow the path, leading you down a steep hill. Shortly, you will reach a narrow board-walk, which takes you across the stream. Walking in the same direction, cross over the road and take the footpath, which leads you up the hill.

5.

Not long after you start the climb, you will reach another gate. Pass through the gate and carry on walking up-hill, following the footpath on the right-hand side of the field. Eventually, you will reach a farm house. Carrying on walking in the same direction, passing the farm house, until you arrive at the main road.

6.

Turn left and walk along the edge of the main road for quite a while. Watch out for vehicles, as they do travel fast along this road. Eventually, you will see a signpost on your right-hand side, making the Public Bridleway. Take this path, following it downhill, along the left-hand side of the field.

7.

At the bottom of the field, turn left and follow the path towards the farm house. As you reach the farmhouse, carry on walking in the same direction, passing through the farmhouse onto a gravel farm track. Follow this track, until you reach the road.

8.

At the road junction, cross over the main road. Walking in the same direction, follow the quieter road down the hill. Eventually, you will meet another crossroads. Cross over the road and again, walking in the same direction, follow the road into Millington Village, returning to where you started the walk.
