The East Yorkshire coastline is incredible! White chalk cliffs, sea stacks, caves, and if your lucky you might spot some wildlife too. We saw dolphins, seals, and Highland Cows, all in one day.
The route is a lovely 8-mile walk that leads you from the village of Flamborough, over to Thornwick Bay and along the tops, passing North Landing, Flamborough Head, and South Landing, before returning back into the village of Flamborough. It’s an easy, well-marked route, but I recommend doing it not on a very windy day, as you are very exposed on the cliff tops.
Location
The route starts and finishes in the village of Flamborough. Just 17 miles south of Scarborough and 5 miles northeast of Bridlington.
Parking
You can park anywhere along the streets, in the village of Flamborough, just as longs as you are not obstructing the road or somebody’s drive.
The Route
Follow this map, as you walk the route, you shouldnât get lost! Make sure your location is turned on and you should be able to see exactly where you are, on this map. Or if you prefer, download the GPX file and use it on your choice of route tracker.
1.
Starting in the village of Flamborough, head north through the village, along the B1255. As you leave the village, you should see a footpath, going off to your left-hand side. Take the footpath, and follow it along the edge of the grass field, towards a holiday park.

Just before reaching the holiday park, steer off to your right-hand side, and join the road. Cross over the road, and head through the gates. Follow the footpath until you reach a signpost, marking a path junction.

At the path junction, take the path going off to your right-hand side and follow it down to Thornwick Bay car park.

At the car park, follow the footpath heading north, down to Thorniwick Bay. Very shortly, you will see a footpath going off to your right-hand side, uphill. You can either take the footpath straight away or do what we did. As the tide was out, we decided to head down onto the beach to see the stacks and caves, before carrying on with the route.

Follow the footpath along the cliff tops, towards North Landing. Look out for some Highland Cattle. We saw a few of them chilling in one of the fields.

As you reach the North Landing car park, walk past the car park, and pass the cafe. You should very shortly join the next stretch of the coastal path, to Flamborough Head.

Follow the footpath along the cliff tops to Flamborough Head, passing Flamborough Golf Course. Again, pass through the car park, passing the cafe on your right-hand side. Very shortly, you should find yourself next to Flamborough Lighthouse. The path will then lead you past the lighthouse and out onto Flamborough Outer Headland. This is where we saw the seals and dolphins, so keep an eye out.

Follow the footpath along Flamborough Outer Headland, down towards South Landing. Just before you reach South Landing, the path will lead you slightly inland, through the trees, and across a quirky bridge. Eventually, you will arrive at a car park.
9.
From the car park, turn towards your right-hand side, and follow the road back into the village of Flamborough. As you reach the crossroads, turn towards your left-hand side onto the B1259. Very shortly, you will arrive at another road junction. Take the road on your right-hand side, back to where you started the route from.
