Neist Point is Skye’s most westerly point. It is located near the town of Glendale and is home to one of the most famous lighthouses in Scotland. It was designed by a man called David Alan Stevenson. On the 1st of November 1909, the lighthouse was lit. On your visit, you will see the aerial cableway which they used to take supplies to the lighthouse and cottages.
The walk to the lighthouse is only 1 mile long (2 miles return) from the car park on a well-marked path. The views from Moonen Bay to Waterstein Head are just incredible. Just be careful on a windy day. We nearly got blown off the top! If you are lucky, you may see a seal bobbing up and down in the water as we did, or even catch a whale or a dolphin swimming in the waters.
Location
Neist Point is located on the Duirinish peninsula, on the Isle of Skye. It’s 4.4 miles away from the nearest town, Glendale, and 30 miles away from the capital, Portree.
Parking
At the time we visited in May 2021, the car parking was free, with plenty of spaces.
The Route
Follow this map, as you walk the route, you shouldn’t get lost! Make sure your location is turned on and you should be able to see exactly where you are, on this map. Or if you prefer, download the GPX file and use it on your choice of route tracker. You can start from anywhere along this route.

Starting at the car park, head west out of the car park, and onto the path. Follow the path up and down the peninsula, until you reach the lighthouse.
2.
Once you’ve finished enjoying your time at the lighthouse, head back the same way you came, retracing your steps.
