Stowe Pinnacle Hike (Vermont) – Map, Parking, Route & Tips

If you are in Stowe during the fall and looking to do some trails, this hike is a must!

Stowe Pinnacle is known as one of Vermont’s finest vistas and best foliage viewpoints — and after hiking it myself, I can completely see why! Not only are the views incredible, but if you time it right in the fall, the colour palette up there is absolutely breathtaking. On a clear day, you’ll get 360° summit views over the Green Mountains, the Worcester Range, and across to Mount Mansfield!

Choice of Routes

There are a few different routes you can take up to the vista — some harder than others. The one I’m sharing with you today, and the one we hiked, is the Pinnacle Meadow Trail.

The route is a 3.5-mile out-and-back trail on well-marked paths. It’s classed as one of the “easier” routes up to the vista. However, even though it’s considered easier, I recommend a reasonable level of fitness. The walk to the vista is 1.75 miles uphill, and it does get quite steep at times. That being said, if you have generally good fitness, this walk shouldn’t be too challenging for you.

Location

Stowe Pinnacle is located southeast of the town of Stowe — just a 10-minute drive away.

Parking

There is a small car park at the trailhead, called Pinnacle Meadows – Stowe Land Trust. As it’s only small, I recommend getting there early. If the car park is full, there is a little bit of roadside parking available.

The road leading to the parking lot is a dirt track, but it’s fine to drive. Even if you don’t have a 4×4, it’s still doable — just take it slow!

The Route

Follow this map as you walk and you shouldn’t get lost! Make sure your location is turned on and you should be able to see exactly where you are. Or, if you prefer, download the GPX file and use it on your choice of route tracker.

This route is an out-and-back trail.

1.

Starting from the parking lot, head back towards the road you just turned off to enter the car park. On your left-hand side, you’ll see a board marking the start of the trailhead.

2.

Follow the path as it leads you through the trees, passing the Pinnacle Meadows. After a while, you’ll reach a path turning off to your left. Stay on the main path going forwards until you reach a second path junction.

If you are unsure at all, please check the map!

3.

At the second junction, take the path going off to your left, signposted for the summit. Follow the path as it leads steeply up through the trees and along the side of the mountain. Eventually, you will reach another junction.

4.

At this junction, take the path on your right, leading you to the summit of Stowe Pinnacle. Here, you’ll be greeted by one of the most incredible views in the whole of Vermont!

5.

Once you’ve finished enjoying your time at the summit (aka the Vista of Stowe Pinnacle), start making your way back down by retracing your steps towards the car park.

If you are unsure at all, please check the map!

6.

At the first path junction you come to, take the path going off to your left. Follow the path as it bends around the mountainside and leads down to another junction.

7.

At this junction, take the path going off to your right. Follow the trail back to the trailhead and car park — where you started the walk.
