Hiking Walks Yorkshire Yorkshire Wolds/Coastline

Newbald 6-Mile Winter Circuit

Newbald in a beautiful village, located in East Yorkshire, in the heart of the Yorkshire Wold’s. The village is made up of a North and a South Newbald.

We did this walk the day after Boxing Day. A lot of trails in the Yorkshire Wold’s were currently covered in thick mud. Luckily, this route wasn’t too bad. The only time it got a bit muddy, was along the Yorkshire Wold’s Way trail, making it a great winter hike.

The route is a moderate 6-mile long trail that leads you through the dry valleys, following a small section of the Yorkshire Wold’s Way. You then head onto a quiet country lane, which leads you down back into Newbald, seeing picturesque views of the rolling hills, for miles and miles.

Location

Newbald is a village made up of a North and a South Newbald. It is situated just 8-miles from the market town, Beverley, and 13-miles from the city of Hull.

If you are using your Satnav, use this postcode: YO43 4SA. This postcode will lead you into the centre of North Newbald, where this walk starts and finishes.

Parking

You can park anywhere on the streets in North or South Newbald. Just make sure you do not block anyone’s drive or the road.

This route starts and finishes in the centre of North Newbald, next to the 2 pubs: Tiger Inn and The Gnu Inn. When we did this walk, we managed to easily get parked in the centre here.

The Route

Follow this map, as you walk the route, you shouldn’t get lost! Make sure your location is turned on and you should be able to see exactly where you are, on this map. Or if you prefer, download the GPX file and use it on your choice of route tracker.

1.

Starting in the centre of North Newbald, head down Eastgate and onto Beverley Road. Follow the country lane until you see a sign marking the Yorkshire Wold’s Way, with a path going off to your right-hand side.

2.

Take the path on your right-hand side and follow it through the bottom of the dry valleys. This path can get muddy at certain points, but still walkable, even after high amounts of rainfall. Follow the path until you reach a country lane called Littlewood Road. You will notice that just before reaching the country lane, the path should go off to your right-hand side. We ended up missing this and carried on walking in the same direction. We then came to a gate that was padlocked shut and had to climb over a low-lying fence, which is not recommended. If you are unsure about this end section of the dry valley, please follow the map closely.

3.

Once you reach the country lane, Littlewood Road, turn towards your right-hand side onto the lane and walk towards the crossroads. Cross over the crossroads, and carry on walking in the same direction onto Whin Lane. Follow Whin Lane, which leads onto Trundle Gate, down into South Newbald.

4.

As you reach South Newbald, follow the road as it bends round to your right-hand side. Follow the road back into North Newbald, to where you started the route from.
