Walkington is a little village, located in East Yorkshire, on the edge of the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds. Not too far from the town Beverley.
This walk is just short of 5.5-miles and fairly easy going. However, if you decide to walk it in November, the paths may be a bit muddy! The route leads you along edges of fields, down country lanes, and towards the village of Risby.
Location
The walk starts and finishes in the village of Walkington, just 3-miles outside of the town of Beverley, in East Yorkshire.
If you are driving using your Satnav, use this postcode: HU17 8RX. The postcode will lead into the centre of Walkington.
Parking
You can park along the main road, running into Walkington, or down a side street. We did the walk on a Saturday afternoon in November and we saw quite a few parking spots.
The Route
Follow this map, as you walk the route, you shouldn’t get lost! Make sure your location is turned on and you should be able to see exactly where you are, on this map. Or if you prefer, download the GPX file and use it on your choice of route tracker.
1.
Starting in the village of Walkington, head to Kirk Lane. Walk down the lane until you reach the bottom. At the bottom, take the lane on your left-hand side and follow the lane, until it turns into a footpath. Walking in the same direction, follow the footpath for a short distance until you see a footpath going off to your right-hand side.
2.
Take the footpath on your right-hand side and follow it along, passing Walkington Plantation on your left-hand side. Eventually, you should reach Halfpenny Gate Cottages.
3.
At the cottages, take the track off to your left-hand side, down Park Lane. You should pass Risby Park Farm on your right-hand side. Just after passing the farm, you should see a footpath going off to your right-hand side.
4.
Take the footpath on your right-hand side and follow it past Silver Fir and Sodwall Plantation as it curves towards Coppleflat Lane. Staying on the footpath, follow it past Fishpond and Folly Wood, until you reach Dunflat Road. This path can be quite muddy!
5.
Turn to your right, onto Dunflat Road, and follow it past Park Farm. Eventually, you will see a signpost marked Public Bridleway, going off to your right-hand side. Take the Public Bridleway and follow it back towards Halfpenny Gate Cottages, passing Risby Park Farm on your left-hand side.
6.
Walking in the same direction, pass through Halfpenny Gate Cottages and follow Risby Lane, back into Walkington. At the bottom of Risby Lane, turn right onto Little Weighton Road. Walk for about 200-metres along Little Weighton Road. Then take the street on your left-hand side, Kirk Lane, and walk back into the centre of Walkington, where you started the walk from.
