Hiking Walks Yorkshire Yorkshire Wolds/Coastline

Wauldby Green 7.5 Mile Hike

Wauldby Green is one beautiful, popular hike to do, in the gorgeous Yorkshire Wolds, East Yorkshire.

The walk is 7.5 miles long, starting and finishing just outside of Nut Wood, next to Hamlet of Raywell. In the colder months or after a lot of rainfall, the lower path near Nut Wood can get very muddy. This is the path of the first section of the walk.

Location

The walk starts and finishes just outside the Hamlet of Raywell, 7 miles north-west of the City of Hull.

If you are driving using your Satnav, use this postcode: HU16 5WH. The postcode will lead close to the parking. The actual parking is on Riplingham Road, between Westfield Road junction and Raywell. You will highly likely see lots of cars parked on the grass verge. This is where the walk starts.

Parking

You can park your car either on the tarmac parking area or on the grass verge. Just make sure you are not blocking the road or any parked car in. The parking area does get full quite quickly so it is best to get there either first thing in the morning or later in the day.

The Route

Follow this map, as you walk the route, you shouldn’t get lost! Make sure your location is turned on and you should be able to see exactly where you are, on this map. Or if you prefer, download the GPX file and use it on your choice of route tracker.

1.

Starting at your car on Riplingham Road. Cross over the road and you should see a gate with a signpost. Take the footpath on your right-hand side, which takes you along the bottom of Nut Wood. This is the path that can get very muddy at times.

2.

Follow the path along the bottom of the valley, until you reach a junction. Take the path in front and carrying on walking until you reach the road.

3.

At the road junction, take the road in front, leading you up the hillside. At the top of the road, as it bends round to your left, you should see a signpost. Take the track off to your right-hand side and follow until a road leading down into Brantingham. This track was also very muddy on our hike in November.

4.

As you head along the road down into Brantingham, look for a path going off to your left-hand side, into the woods. Take the footpath through the woods, through South Wood Plantation, and onto Elloughton Dale.

5.

Turn left onto Elloughton Dale, passing the farmhouse on

your left-hand side, until you reach a Public Bridleway going off to your right-hand side, called the High Hunsley Circuit. Take the Public Bridleway and follow it until you reach a Public Bridleway going off to your left-hand side, marked the Yorkshire Wolds Way.

6.

Follow the Public Bridleway, passing Wauldby Manor Farm on your left-hand side, until you reach a path junction. Take the Public Bridleway off to your right-hand side and follow it until you reach a road junction, passing Little Wauldby Farm on your left-hand side.

7.

At the road junction, take the path off to your left-hand side and follow it till you reach Nut Wood. At Nut Wood, take the path on your right-hand side and follow it back to where you started the route from.
