Hiking The Drewton Wold’s 5 Mile Circular

The Drewton Wold’s 5-mile circular is located near South Cave, in East Yorkshire, which is a beautiful area in the Yorkshire Wolds. The area is full of rolling hills, beautiful woodland, and ponds full of ducks.

The walk is 5.38 miles long, leading you up and down the hills, seeing great views along the way. The paths were not too muddy either, considering we did the walk in November.

Location

The walk starts and finishes just outside the village of South Cave, just 15 miles from Hull and 11 miles from Beverley.

Parking

The parking in on Beverly Road, at the top of the hill, before heading down Beverly Clump, into South Cave. I recommend using my map below, under my route, to find where I mean along Beverly Road.

The gravel car park only has a few spaces and they do get full up quite quickly. My advice is to get there either earlier on the day or later in the day. Some people do park along Beverly Road, near the car park. However, just make sure you are not blocking the road at all.

The Route

Follow this map, as you walk the route, you shouldn’t get lost! Make sure your location is turned on and you should be able to see exactly where you are, on this map. Or if you prefer, download the GPX file and use it on your choice of route tracker.

1.

Starting at the car park, head down the chalk path until you see a footpath going off to your right-hand side, marking the Yorkshire Wold’s Way. Take the footpath and head down to the bottom of the valley, to a path junction.

2.

At the path junction, take the footpath leading off to your left-hand side. Climb over the stile and follow the footpath until you reach a country lane. Turn left onto the farm track and follow it along Drewton Dale, until you reach a farmhouse and a junction.

3.

Turn towards your right-hand side and follow the country lane up the hill, passing a duck pond on your right-hand side. Keep walking until you see a footpath sign pointing off to your right-hand side. Take the footpath along the edge of the field and up onto the next field, walking past Austin’s Dale Woodland area on your right-hand side. Eventually, you will join onto B1230, Hunsley Road.

4.

Follow the path that runs parallel to Hunsley Road. Shortly, you will reach a track going off to your right-hand side. Take the track and follow it to the woodland area. The path will lead you around the outside of the woodland area and down through the left-hand side of Austin’s Dale.

5.

Eventually, you will arrive at a stile, leading you into a cattle field. At the time we walked this route in November, there were no cattle in the field. Head through the cattle field, towards Diamond Cottage. Go through the gate and follow the country lane downhill, walk past the pond, and you should see a familiar path junction, going off to your left-hand side. This is where you were earlier on, on the trail.

6.

Take the path going off to your left-hand side and follow it over the bridge and back towards Comber Dale. At the path junction on Comber Dale, take the path going off to your right-hand side, leading you back up the valley and onto the chalk path.

7.

At the top of Comber Dale, take the chalk path heading off to your left-hand side. Follow it back to the car park, where you started the trail from.
