Many of you may not have been expecting a blog this week, and neither was I. But here I am writing one!
I remember a few weeks ago when I said, if there’s no blog it means I’m well, probably somewhere out in the mountains in Casper, enjoying life. That is exactly how my weekend was supposed to be! I was meant to be in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales with family, celebrating some big birthdays. But sadly, the wolf had another idea this week!
The Crazy Heatwave
I talked about last week and how I was worried about how my body was going to cope with Monday and Tuesday, as temperatures soared up to the high 30s here in the UK. I know my body well! I know the wolf well! I know my body doesn’t cope well with extreme temperatures. Anything that causes extra stress to my body, ends up with a nasty fallout with the wolf. It’s pretty black and white. This week was no exception to the matter!
Monday and Tuesday during the heatwave, the heat caused my skin to burn up. All I can describe is it was like my body was on fire! A bit of Aloe Vera gel helped to soothe it. Then there were patches during the day were my muscles would ache, my joints felt so sore, my head would hurt, and I felt sick and dizzy.
Then Wednesday morning came. As everyone waved goodbye to the crazy heat, I woke to the aftermath, a full-blown flare! It was horrible! From there, I continued to go downhill. By Thursday evening my sinuses had become infected. Probably didn’t help the fact my white blood count and my Neutrophil count are so low at the minute, along with my Lymphocyte count and my Eosinophil count which are always low. Basically, my immune system is almost non existing at the minute!
Starting To See Hope
Today is day 3 of antibiotics, and I’m finally starting to make some improvement. I’ve just had my first shower since Tuesday. It exhausted me doing so but just felt good to finally be well enough to get one! I know I’ve still got a way to go on my recovery, but at least now I am heading in the right direction!
It’s been really upsetting to not be able to be part of my family celebrations this weekend. All because of this heatwave we had on Monday and Tuesday. Next time the UK is forecasted crazy temperatures, I’ll be getting in my van and driving up north, high up in the mountains where it’s so much cooler!
Anyways, that’s it from me this week. Hopefully, next week will be a better week!
Until next week,
Goodbye for now
Emma
