I hope you’re all having a lovely weekend! Last night we went to Flamborough to see the puffins and caught a lovely sunset. I kind of didn’t see any puffins, or well I thought I hadn’t. But when I looked back at my photos, I had somehow managed to capture one!
My Eye Tests
This week I had to go into hospital for some eyes test. Basically, I suffer from blurry and double vision as my eye muscles don’t work together. We are about 90% sure it’s my illness that’s attacking my eye muscles. However, because I have been on Hydroxychloroquine for years, they want to double check I’m not suffering from any side effects. For anyone who doesn’t know, long-term usage of Hydroxychloroquine can cause eye damage.
On Friday at the hospital, they put two different solutions into my eyes. I had to then wait a short while for the drops to work. They then took me into a room and took lots of different photos of both eyes.
The examination was quick and fairly painless. The eye drops stung a little when they put them in. Afterwards, you have quite a bit of blurry vision and become very light-sensitive. But it soon wears off! I just remember my eyes feeling really tired by the end of the day!
Just note: if any of you are having the test done, you can’t drive for up to 6 hours afterwards! They should tell you that before your appointment so you can make arrangements in advance.
The Results
I should get my results back in the next 2 weeks or so, when the consultant has had the chance to look at the photos taken of my eyes. If my Hydroxychloroquine is causing damage to my eyes, they will remove me off the drug all together. I’m currently on a lower dose until we have answers. If I do have to come off it, apparently, there is something I can take instead, which I cannot remember the name of!
If it’s not the Hydroxychloroquine, I can go back on my higher dose, which I need and I am struggling without. But then it’s back to what we thought it was, my illness attacking my eye muscles. Something I have very little control over! It’s then likely my eyes are going to continue to deteriorate over the years ahead.
So now it’s just a waiting game!
Anyways, that’s it from me this week! We are hoping to head up to the Lake District with Casper next weekend. Therefore, there will be no blog next week!
