This week’s blog is only going to be a short one. I’m not very well today. I’ve spent most of the afternoon in bed sleeping. I’m still currently in bed but I’ve managed to open up my MacBook, in an attempt to write this week’s blog. The screen is a blare. My eyes are struggling to focus. I just want to go back to sleep. I feel like today my bodies given up on me. Or maybe I’ve just given up fighting everything, as I’m exhausted! I’ve been living off so much codeine and caffeine to get me through each day, giving my body no rest along the way, fighting the wolf day in day out, refusing to stop and let him win.
All week it’s been a fight. It’s been a long week of fighting the shingles pain, fighting my lupus flare, and now today, I’m also fighting sinus trouble. It’s exhausting! I feel like I’m at war with my body.
I went to see the doctor last week. She said my shingles are healing but it will just take time due to me being immunosuppressed. My illness is flared due to the infection in my body and the stress from it. Again, I will slowly be getting better, but it will just take time.
I’ve been in other situations in the past where I’ve taken weeks and weeks to get back to my normal self again. There’s nothing I can do, over then ride it through. I’ve already had a steroid dose increase, which I feel has done very little. The only other option is to go on a higher and longer steroid dose increase. However, I am trying to avoid this. But my consultant said this might happen, as my body gets more and more used to being on steroids.
Today with my sinuses, well I have no answers for them, other than it’s this time of year when they always congest and often end up with an infection.
I’ve been prescribed 10mg of Amitriptyline for nerve pain caused by my shingles. It takes a couple of weeks before they start to work. However, they are knocking me out on a night so currently getting a really good night’s sleep at the minute. But I am waking up feeling quite hungover from them, which is not so good. At least it’s only a short-term drug for me.
Anyways, that’s it from me this week. I really hope next week I start to see light at the end of the tunnel to all this. It’s been a long 4 weeks of fighting! I keep telling myself, I will get better, I know I will. I will be back out hiking again before I know it, well enough to do the things I love again. It’s just a rough patch the wolf likes to put me through every now and again, reminding me he is still here.
Until next week,
Goodbye for now
Emma
