North Yorkshire Moors
Hiking North York Moors National Park Walks

Spectacular Lordstone’s Circular

If you are after a little walk, not too strenuous, not too many miles, but with spectacular views, then this is the one for you! A beautiful 3-mile walk starting and finishing in Lordstones’s Country Park, leading you high onto Cringle Moor.

We did this walk in January on New Year’s Day, on a glorious sunny afternoon. The walk itself is along well-marked footpaths. However, parts were very muddy!

Location

Lordstone Country Park is located north of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, in the Cleveland Hills. Located just 14-miles south of the large town of Middlesbrough.

Parking

There are a few different car parks to choose from, at the Lordstone Country Park. They do get full quite quickly, so try and get there early to get a spot during peak season.

The Route

Follow this map, as you walk the route, you shouldn’t get lost! Make sure your location is turned on and you should be able to see exactly where you are, on this map. Or if you prefer, download the GPX file and use it on your choice of route tracker.

1.

Starting at the Lordstone Country Par car park, head northeast out of the car park, towards the stone semi-circle on Green Bank.

2.

Head east, away from Lordstones, and take the path leading up onto Cringle Moor to the viewpoint. On your way up, you will pass a path folking off to your left-hand side. This is the path you will come back down on later on along the route. Further up, you will cross over a footpath. Just carry on heading along your path, in the same direction, northeast, up to the viewpoint.

3.

At the viewpoint, head east along the ridge top, following the footpath. Eventually, it will lead you steeply down off the ridge to join another path.

4.

At the path junction, turn to your left-hand side and follow the footpath west. Enventally, you will reach a little wooded area. Head through the woods and rejoin the path you where on, earlier on the walk.

5.

Follow the footpath west, back to Lordstone Country Park, where you started the walk from.
