North Cave and Hotham are 2 beautiful villages in the Yorkshire Wolds, not too far from the city of Hull.
This beautiful 4-mile route takes you through the 2 country villages and onto North Cave Wetlands. The route is an easy route, leading you along country lanes and an estate park. The only part where you may need a good pair of walking boots is at North Cave Wetlands. The paths here in December were very muddy and boggy.
Location
The walk starts and finishes at North Cave Wetlands, just outside the village of North Cave, 15-miles west of the city of Hull.
If you are driving using your Satnav, use the postcode: HU15 2LY. This postcode should take you to North Cave Wetlands.
Parking
When we visited in December, there was plenty of parking at North Cave Wetlands, free of charge. I don’t know if the parking spots get full up in the summer months. If they do, you could always park in the village of North Cave.
The Route
Follow this map, as you walk the route, you shouldn’t get lost! Make sure your location is turned on and you should be able to see exactly where you are, on this map. Or if you prefer, download the GPX file and use it on your choice of route tracker.
1.
Starting at North Cave Wetlands, head to your right, onto Cliffe Road. Follow the road until you reach a crossroads. Continue straight on at the crossroads, heading into the village of North Cave.
2.
Walkthrough the village of North Cave, along Nordham Road. Eventually, as the road bends off to your right-hand side, you should see a path going off to your left-hand side, through a park. Take the footpath through the park, passing Hotham Hall on your right-hand side.
3.
Eventually, you will reach the village of Hotham. Walkthrough the village, until you arrive at a road junction with a monument. Take the road going off to your left-hand side and follow it until you reach a set of crossroads.
4.
At the crossroads, continue going in the same direction, following the country lane up Common Hill and down towards the crossroads. At the crossroads, turn to your left-hand side, onto Cliffe Road. Beware, cars do go fast along this road.
5.
Walk along the edge of Cliffe road, until you see a gate, leading you onto North Cave Wetlands. There is a gab at the side of the gate, so there is no need to open the gate. Head through the gab and follow the grass path in front. The path will take you anticlockwise around the wetlands and back to your car. Remember, look out for wildlife in the wetland areas.
